Following general consensus on the old thread regarding the lack of updates, I have decided to start a new thread for which I'll provide constant updates.

Older threads are here, most recent at the top:
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18339942
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18129115
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17845770
I have shamelessly copy/pasted the old thread and simply updated the weights.

*** The Rules ***
  • State your 1RM (one rep max) for the 3 big lifts in Kilos. Preferably using a normal Olympic 20kg barbell.
    1. Bench
    2. Squat
    3. Deadlift
  • State your bodyweight in Kilos.
  • If you have less than 250 posts, please post a video if you want to join us on the score board.

Please advise if you use a belt, straps, smith machine and/or any other lifting aids or non standard machinery. If we are not satisfied it counts for this league it will be discounted - however please contribute to the Gym Rats Thread to update us on your progress.

Ideally it would be great if you could post a video of the lift - not for the sake of disbelief or lack of trust, however for the sake of interest of those taking part. This is not mandatory, however I should ask that you are honest about your lifts.

It had to be done! :D
I went through the old thread and found updates from august - tom_e was slacking for quite a while! If I missed anyone please post here and I shall update.
Thanks, Cristian, for enshrining my lameness in a forum post! :D

nothing lame about it mate, we all started low - the key thing is to keep at it!

DarkShadow's total of 520kg whilst weighing in at 70kg is more impressive than Cristian's (apologies! :) ) at 92kg from an out-and-out strength perspective, is it not?

It is indeed.
However, you need to bear in mind that being heavier means for the vast majority of the lifters here simply being taller. More bone mass, more weight. Some of us are just fatter. If we were talking about 2 lifters of same height, similar bodyfats but different weights (one having more muscle) then the epicness is indeed outstanding.

For example - see this guy here with a 4.5bw deadlift
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=8Ohaq_yrHeA
when you weigh as much as a sparrow's fart it's possible to do so (although exceptionally rare)
Double his bodyweight and see if you can double the deadlift.;) Not even the likes of Andy Bolton etc can touch that ratio

Similar for olympic clean & jerk. World record at 56kg is 168kg, 3times bw. Yet the massive 100kg guys will never ever catch 300kg. Both lifters being at the super elite world champions end of the scale.

Simply put - bodyweight and weight lifted do not increase proportionally. Hence why I for one take things like power to weight ratio with a pinch of salt.

Updated everybody else.

It's much worse for benching if you're tall.
If you've got short arms and a big chest then you touch your chest with the bar without even coming close to 90 degrees on your arms, which is a great position of power.
If on the other hand you're 6ft 2 like me even with correct bench positioning and wide grip you have to go past 90 degrees between your forearm and upper arm which makes it much much harder leverage wise and increases your shoulder injury chances exponentially.

LiE - but they're so good man. :(

From scratch?
I don't mind as long as people post it in the right format and I just have to copy-paste a line.

I assume we should leave that up for discussion though, I can start by removing inactive posters, just agree on their names.
I'll let the peepwhole decide, you lot vote and I'm happy to oblige either way.

5) Andy Bolton is a world record deadlifter sure it's "only" 2.8x his bodyweight, however the weight shifted is awesome and no less amazing. HOWEVER, to ME, MY OPINION, IRRESPECTIVE OF WILKS SCORE, my PERSONAL take on this, what I find more impressive is that 3x BW example.

Fair enough, As the saying goes - "We'll agree to disagree" on that one.

I only disagree because there must be quite a few light lifters out there who can shift 3 times their body-weight with not that much training experience (as in 1-2 years of lifting), whereas such feat at the heavyweight end of the scale is simply impossible even for uber champions like Bolton etc.

The way I see it - the more common something is, the less "impressive" I find it but that doesn't mean I don't respect your opinion.:)

Got your email, I will update wilks tonight as well.

Updated everybody.
Jack, why would you want to give those numbers and lose your first place? :P
I think quite a few lifters aren't able to match their PBs right now so I don't think a downgrade is necessary.

Unless the people vote/decide otherwise, let me know.

I guess after new years we could start from scratch and have a "2 out of 3" video rule? As in you need to have 2 of your big lifts with video evidence to keep your place in the ranking.

Why not 3? people might find it a tad difficult to find someone to record them on all 3 or they might have an injury. I mean for a deadlift you just put the camera on the floor, for a bench you'd have to find a decent spotter (hard) , make the spotter agree to being recorded (next to impossible) and a 3rd person to record. Definitely not something I would ever bother with as the pansies at my gym look at me oddly as it is now.:D

When you train on your own in a very "commercial" gym people stare at you like you're some sort of a monster anyway. RAWR-ing over a one rep max doesn't help.
Asking a stranger for help is one thing, but asking him to be recorded is where I wouldn't be that keen.

But that's just me I guess.

The point of commercial gyms and getting weird looks is a bit weak. Yes it is very true, but LiE and myself both go to a very commercial gym, and both ask random people to film us, neither of us has had someone say no, and generally they are quite interested and agreeing when you say it's to check your form.

I do however appreciate that some people just don't have the confidence to ask people, I mean even sit there between sets and scoop the room to pick up e courage to ask someone. Consider this, everyone who goes to the gym is there to exercise, and get something out of it, so I would be very suprised if anyone turned anyone down, unless you, yourself are totally weird lol
I don't think it's weak at all. It's one thing to ask a stranger to film you in a quiet gym in milton keynes full of professionals to record your deadlift .

But it's another to do so in a gym full of stuck ups where everybody frowns wen you drop the bar from 2 inches and looks at you like you're some kind of child molester.

And to find a person willing to be recorded on your bench attempt - not that easy.
