*** The official 2023 and 2024 Mac mini thread (it has the M2 chip, the M4 chip and everything!) ***

All I really care about if i'm to be completely blunt is to be able to reasonably expect to be able to open a file without it feeling like i'm stuck in the 90's again. I never want to go back to mechanical drives - dark days were had indeed.

This is the problem with benchmarks a lot of the time it’s always tempting to think you’ll need more but a lot of the time it is just FOMO.

I’ve just picked up the base model so will have a play later and see how it performs with what I’ll actually be using it for.

This may be a long short....do you have Steam specifically Baldur's Gate 3? If it can play that well on the base model then that's the one I will go for.

I've heard of it but I rather not pay another subscription. At least a more powerful machine can apply for everything I do.
From what I remember of dealing with Macs, they don't play most games, do they? This'd give you the same library as a PC does.

The keyboard and mouse I have are both USB A so I need to buy a dock to make them work with it, or a new keyboard and mouse. As I want to remove some clutter from my desk I fancy a 75% keyboard and I might just use my current mouse with whatever dock I order tonight.
Get the smaller Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, it’s nice to have on the Apple silicon macs.

I guess that has speakers in like from the iMac?
I never had an iMac so I honestly couldn’t say. But they fill my small office no problem and the sound quality is superb. For built in monitor speakers they’re absolutely outstanding. I thought Apple excelled themselves with the speakers in the 16 inch MacBook Pro but even it can’t hold a candle to the display.
