Really confused about which MB to get now.
Don't want to spend £1500+ on a new 15" MBA no matter how tempting they are.
So it'll be a used M1 MBA, MBP, or M2 MBA or MBP. Budget is prob up to around 700. Depends on whether 16GB is worth it or not too.

Use case is just web browsing, office type work, no need for crazy photo or video editing stuff.

Decisions, decisions...
I've got an 8GB M1 Air - honestly, it's plenty. I have the same use case as you, plus a little MainStage for running my guitar/bass through.

Discussed buying one this morning.

My options are new MB or long weekend/holiday in mainland Europe. Seen as I’m not desperate for the upgrade, I’m going to hold off for yet another year. Sounds ridiculous to say that but that’ll be 10 years with the MBP.

15'' MBP 512/16 for £1799 or a refurb 14'' M2 Pro for £1829... seems too close?

What sort of workload will you be running on the machine? How important is portability to you?

Also, not to complicate things any further but it's worth mentioning you can also purchase a brand new 16" MacBook Pro, M1 Pro Chip [2021] - 512GB for £1,815.

Apple's line up seems messy at the moment, air vs pro at the same size (14" ish), the 15" slotting in between the 14" and 16" models doesn’t seem very interesting in the grand scheme, M1 pro vs vanilla M2 at similar price points. I'd struggle to choose (but not in the market currently) however the 16 M1 Pro at £1699 seems a better buy than the 15 MBA.

If portability is what you want you'd pick the 14 MBA or Pro.

16” for me all day long - heck I’d buy a 17 or 18 if such a machine existed. For me, portability isn’t an issue - it rarely leaves the house. I use mine as my sole workstation and have even stopped using an external monitor now because the XDR display on the MacBook is just so darned good.

I had the 15” air delivered this morning, can’t believe how bad the front camera is, even in a well lit room, the camera quality is shocking.

Tempted to return it just for this issue :p

I’m in the market for a MacBook Air. I think the 15 will be too big as want it mainly for portability. The 13inch one came out last year , do you think a new version of the 13 will come out later this year or not (just wondering whether to wait a few months or not)

As always refer to this - https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#mac

However, I’m fully on the board of if you want it now. Get it now* unless it’s like a month away from a new model.

Agree with Reuben. When I bought my 13" M2 MBA, I bought it because I wanted it and because it was the right device for me. If you're in the market for one, and there's one available that meets your requirements, just buy it. Otherwise you'll always be waiting just in case a new model is released.
