Grinding means doing the same easy task over and over again to level up. Interesting quests, story lines, raides and PVP all try and prevent it but after a while a lot of these types of games can feel like a grind. Ie you are just doing the same boring thing over and over to level up so you can do more of the same etc etc.

Imo I've yet to see anything beat Ultima Online, but that in itself was ruined ages ago, yet the core elements and freedom still make it unlike anything around. I recall trying Lotr Online back in 2007 - that was no different from the superb Daoc. It was just a quest fest. Sure it was during it's early days but I could see the grinding happening from a mile off.

It'll be interesting to see how AoC fares. Obviously it will start off well but they all decay over time once the economy goes **** up.
 
Age of Conan. Mature rating. Has sex in it. The community is going to be awful. And for MMOs, the community is the thing that either makes or breaks a game for me long term.
 
Just to put one thing into context..

the monthly subscription, which they say will be £8-9, well thats about the same as their other title, and only applies to the annual subscription price. The regular monthly subscription will work out to about £11.. oh, and add VAT ontop of that.
 
Been following this for a while, looking forward to getting it. Probably a good thing it being pushed back - I have Uni work to do in the coming months, lol.

Right so a mature rating makes a worse community? Go and play WoW with your 12 year old buddies. :p

Don't be daft, a mature rating is going to draw the kiddies like flies to cow dung.

"OMFG you can have sex!! In the game!!!" General chat is NOT going to be pretty, I'd bet large amounts of money on it :p
 
I'm hoping they'll put the collector's edition, with the bonuses that other Euro/American sites get for preorder, onto a UK site ASAP.

I don't play WoW, and haven't been 12 for an awful long time. But if you really think the M rating will keep the kids away and that a game with sex as an underlying theme is going to have a mature audience then I pity your first few days playing AoC...
 
Not me, I've been signed up for months and nothing. Same with WAR. Maybe its my rig (A64 4000+/X1900XT/2GB RAM) cause I've got plenty of experience beta testings mmorpgs. Or maybe I'm just unlucky :(
 
luck tbh, i imagine many 100s of thousands of people apply to these betas, mostly just to "play the game early" and theres usually a healthy amount of people in this category with enough diversity in their rig specs for the devs to test stability through spec ranges

The German version is rated 18+ by USK. The German version has full gore, but will not have decapitation, dismemberment, and over-the-top type fatalities.

The “elsewhere in Europe” version is rated 18+ by PEGI and is unchanged.

Seems the americans can't cope with nipples and the germans dont like too much blood. We get both blood and nipples. Oh yes, I can see the mature gamer being really attracted to the game.

On the plus side you may get to hear lots of little american kids whining about not seeing any nipples.
