I can't justify the cost to replace the 3x ATVs that I have at the moment, plus I've never really had a problem with the magic remote.

Would I buy an Apple TV again? Possibly, although most smart TVs now let you AirPlay and install apps like Plex, ATV+ and Netflix etc). The only thing keeping me locked in is that they're basically controller units for home automation, otherwise I don't think it would be an insta-purchase.

Yeah this is the last one for us now for the foreseeable.

If the new remote goes down well however….

okay thanks, if that’s the case I’d be as well just buying it via sky then. It doesn’t cost me anything to have it on my phone so I can see why they’d want to prevent me watching it on the telly.

Don’t know how much it is via Sky but this is what I get in the EE app…

yep -

yep my wife and i both have AW 6's so think it would be a good fit for us. i struggled get the Fitness + working on my ipad and was quite frankly too small to use, but seemed to sort it when I sorted out my icloud accounts. By that time my 3 month free trial had expired.

Just seems so much money just for that functionality when the Fire TV's do everything else.

It’s worth the extra just getting rid of all the ads.

I’ve tried them all and when it’s all said and done, the family always come back to the Apple TV. It really is (IMO) the best streaming device on the market.

Mine arrived a couple of hours ago.

Definitely feels a bit snappier.

Remote is nice and passed the wife test so that’s all that counts.

Finally got the latest YouTube UI aka the one literally every other device has.

I want consistency in UI. I don’t see why that’s difficult. Little features in iPlayer like showing a box in the bottom right showing a timer and next up content, or user profiles.

Agreed. I've always been an advocate for the ATV (and still am tbh), but I grabbed the 4K Max Fire Stick this week and tbh, it's more than up to the task. Has UHD (with HLG HDR) for iPlayer and all the latest versions of the apps (Netflix, Spotify & iPlayer as examples) which for me, look more visually appealing than their ATV counterparts.

It’s ludicrous that I can get the new iPlayer on an ancient fire stick, ŵhich is an awful experience…but not on an atv 4K gen 1 with a10x :/

Edit: Sorry, I’d just tested it. It was so sluggish. Really frustrates me!

Agreed. I plugged the 4K Max Fire Stick back in a couple of days ago and once again found myself wondering how a £40 device can have better apps/features than the £170/190 one.

In my recent move to the Apple ecosystem, I recently picked up a 2021 ATV. I think I may be missing out on something because I’m failing to see what makes it a rough £100 better than a Roku 4K. I’ve had firetv sticks, Google Chromecast and a couple of Rokus. The ATV feels definitely faster with a picture that seems a bit crispier but I feel like I’m probably missing something here. My wife can’t be convinced to ditch the Roku either, she thinks I’m crazy for pick up the ATV :)
I will say that if you've got AirPods, the sync is great. It is probably the best device for matching frame rate and dynamic range across all the apps and playing ATV+/iTunes content you get higher bitrates than using the ATV+ app say on your Roku. But the majority of people aren't really going to notice or be that bothered. So no you're not missing anything really.

It's a nice device to tie in with the rest of your other Apple gear but definitely not a necessity.

That might be part of it, I don’t have any content purchased from Apple and mostly use streaming apps. I’ve had a tv+ subscription since it launched but that’s about it. So for me it’s no better than a 4K Roku stick, it even has Airplay.
I do like how it easily connects to airpods but whether that’s worth the extra cost, I remain very skeptical.
I mean unless anyone specifically asks me about the Apple TV, if they ask me to recommend a device I’love always say the Fire TV gear because they are cheap and have all the UK catch-up apps.

Isn’t Android TV missing some apps in the UK? I’m pretty sure that was the reason for me to get a Roku in the first place. Definitely All4 and NowTV were missing at the very least.
It’s all complicated with that blasted Chromecast. Now TV got added to the new HD CC, but still isn’t available on the 4K one. Very strange.

All 4 still not on there.

For whatever reason my 21 ATV won’t load in the tvOS public beta-gets to stage 2 and then restarts itself…

My 17 model and 22 one went through with no issues.
