Thinking of asking for a pair of binoculars for xmas, anyone know if the Ostara Elinor 10x50 would be good introduction to astronomy?

I'm only asking about them because they won a sky at night group test and got 91%. I am completely open to other suggestions.

This is the best one i've found, quite good: http://www.avex-asso.org/dossiers/wordpress/?page_id=127

There's a download to put on Google Earth on that page too, so you can use that too :)

Edit: Nevermind beaten

Thanks, seems dartmoor is the closest best place.

Any recomendations for telescopes? Can you fit a camera to any telescope?
Is it posinel to get one which you can attach a camera to and get awesome pctures of like jupiter and nebula or are they kind of split in to catogries one for the planets and one for deep space.

And how much money are we talking can a set up be had for like £200 or we talking more like £500?

Astrophotography is usually very pricey business...

Planetary images generally use webcams/dedicated cameras, separate from the cameras used for deep sky objects, they really are two separate groups. For both you really need a good mount (HEQ5 minimum, NEQ6 or better ideally) and they cost upwards of £500 new on their own, then there's the cameras (which can range from £200-£1000) and the scope itself!!

So ISON (this 2km lump of rock/ice) is currently being pulled so hard by the Sun's gravity its accelerating as fast as a sports car, and has yet to almost double its current speed by 6:30 tonight! You can understand how this thing might break apart!
