** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

I have a solid oak desk to put it all on so compared to my old scrappy case it looks quite neat all laid out. It doesnt require any case fans either, so I can turn the cpu fan down to 800rpm and its pretty much silent. Ironically the hard disk clicking away then becomes the biggest noise :p Its not loud, thats just the way the brain works unfortunately

Ive heard of people hanging their working pc on the wall like a picture

I intend to put it back in a bigger case eventualy, I just want to do this pencil mod first so I can reduce temps/volts a bit

I'm going to be getting this case eventually:

You think its good for cooling?, seems to be maxing out at 64 degrees but my case is naff for cooling: (What do you think of my case? Yea its a cheap one lol, you think its ok cooling though or anything I can do to it to make it better.

I've finally received the Noctua coolers so I'm ready to start building. Could somebody please point me to WJA's guide to overclocking with this board? I've looked through loads of his posts but can't find it.

I've got a 6600 if that makes any difference.

Well the case your getting certainly has better cooling than your current one. 80mm move to little air for to much noise.
As your getting a new case i wouldnt bother doing anything to the current one.

And disable Legacy USB

Am I to take it that disabling USB 2.0 support in this photo was an error?

Penryn

Hey all, long time since I posted in this thread - holy cow!

Any news on whether this board will support Penryn? Keep hearing news on the usual suspects that it will/won't. I gather all it needs is a BIOS update.

If it doesn't then I will be kinda ****** because I bought this to support 1333FSB processors and had hoped this would include Penryn.

Asus seem poor on BIOS updates so am worried even if they do claim support.

No swearing

Is the standard heatsink on the NB supposed to be so hot when you touch it that it can totally burn my finger? I touched the NB and my finger was in pain for a while, must be around 100 degrees lol

Yeah it's normal I'm afraid. It is THAT hot, just put a small fan over it will be sufficient.

Yea was nice and cool with a 60mm fan on it but then one of the blades broke off the fan :(.

Its similar to gpu temps. Its not as bad you think probably but 60c is about right and it can operate stable at this temp

Lol mine feels as got as a kettle when its boiled, much hotter than 60degrees it feels.

Yes, though don't be surprised if the yellow RAM slots are "iffy".

Whats wrong with the Yellow ram slots? I'm using them now in the Yellow slots, allthough I had to return the ram settings back to stock, I kept getting lockups and was only at 800 4-4-4-12 , dont know if the lockups were to do with the ram.

It's absolutely fine, though I'll get a better GFX if you are serious about gaming.

Nothing in theory, however, I've had two of these motherboards, and the yellows have not been usable. Reading around on the internet, there seem to be lots of people talking about having problems with RAM when using yellow slots.
