Yeah, may well have to try one of those out... For now though, think I should move the gfx card down a slot to improve airflow onto the heatsink and test out the highest nb voltage? Just a bit worried about frying the thing!

I tried the 1.7v NB setting and it didn't do anything for my overclock. That was on the stock NB cooler with a 92mm fan blowing at it, I survived the ordeal, so you probably will too (don't blame me though if you toast it).

clocked my E6600 to 3.4Ghz (425 * 8 multi)
Ram at 850Ghz

but i can't run Orthos for more than 18seconds, although 3dMark06 runs no problem and my games run no problem.

I've never used Orthos on Vista before, anyone know if this is a problem due to vista ?

Orthos runs fine on my Vista - don't think your box is stable. That's a high FSB for the P5N-E - how's your northbridge cooling? Why aren't you using x9 to keep the FSB down?

Ive had it on 1.7 for a couple of days and its fine, then again its all about case cooling so i spose its not for everyone.

850ghz  :p wow, well Im running ram not very far above stock but the cpu Iam running at that speed and it can do orthos. Same nb volts but you need more cpu volts basically.
I could probably use less but its at 1.5v +100mv in bios settings at present so .3v above you at present ?

I'm running my E6300 at roughly 475 FSB with the 2nd highest nb voltage(1.5xx v) and a 92mm fan blowing in the direction of the stock heatsink. I think the board is quite capable of high FSBs, i've had no problems at all. I haven't pushed the overclock past 475 as I'll need to up the nb voltage, and I didn't really feel comfortable doing that, but I think I probably will try it. I'll let you all know how I get on.

Incidentally, has anyone seen 500+ FSB overclocks with an E6300 on air cooling? Seems to me that the highest safe overclock achievable for an E6300 on air is 3.4-3.5 GHz at a stretch.

well the NB is running at around 55c (temp probe stuck to it)at the moment, since its just with the stock heatsink.

plus i'm using a heatsink on my processor that blows out the back not over the nb :(

at work now but i think i'll have to drop that fsb back down to my stable 400fsb until i can sort out the nb cooling.

sorry missed the Q. about 8 multi, well i like the 400+fsb for more memory bandwidth running in sync mode. and i didn't want to push the cpu too much.
I tried 3.6 at 400*9 for a while found it unstable, again might be my cooling or maybe needs more volts on something...

Why not try un-linked? I got a lot further post-400 FSB when running ram un-linked.

does anyone know how to remove the Northbridge heatsink on this mobo as mine is running at near 80 degrees C.

Do you just pull on the black pins? as they seem stuck

I might be wrong as I haven't had a look at the back of my board since i installed it and haven't taken the nb heatsink off, but i'd presume they're the usual little black plastic expanding clips. In which case you'd need to remove the mobo from your case, get a pair of needle nose pliers, squeeze the little clips at the back of the mobo and push through... in my past experience of these, you need to be careful not to squeeze the clips too hard or you'll destroy them - if indeed it matters to you to keep the heatsink intact.

Got my board and I'm burning the CPU (E6600) in for a week before attempting my overclock. Thanks to this thread I replaced the northbridge heatsink with a Zalman one and got a Scythe Infinity heatsink.

Now for overclocking this baby, I'm looking for a checklist as there seems to be many different opinions around.

- Test Software: Orthos
- Monitoring Software - ? (not sure what to use for temps & voltages)
- Bios: 0401 ? (is this correct?)

Also does it help or hinder overclocking if the memory modules are running in dual channel mode ? (ie. 1GB in yellow chan A & 1GB in yellow chan B)

Thanks for any help.

I took mine of last night, pinch the heads of the pins to get them halfway through the holes then push really hard and they should pop through.

1. Orthos
2. Speedfan
3. 0401 :)

Shouldn't make any difference, you always want to be in dual channel. Try running in the yellow slots vs the black slots, as some people find one is better than the others.

Thanks :D

I'm running my OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC DDR2 PC2-6400 at 4-4-4-15 (2T) , would 1T make a difference?
