The 5850 will do me, should get a year of good gaming out of it, maybe 2 at a push, then upgrade it.

Much better value than the GTX 285(By a mile) & the 5870.

For an enthusiast no card will ever be enough for the next 2-3 years.

I've had my 6800GT for 5 years, I'm a gaming enthusiast, just not a computer enthusiast. It's played everything in the first 2 years on highest and most since 2007 on average settings until this year where it's still managed games such as Fear 2 at a good 25fps on lowest settings - and that's still at 1280x1024 res.

However it is unable to play most games coming out this year and any onwards so I'm having to upgrade (to a sexy new 5850 rig :D), and granted i'll never go without upgrading for that long again. But just because you aren't a component enthusiastic as many, doesn't mean you aren't a gaming enthusiast.

Is the 5870 worth the extra 100 quid, or is it better to get a 5850. Secondly is it worth it waiting for the 5870x2? If so when do you guys think/know when they will be released.
