** The Official ATI RV770/RV700 Series Review/Overclocking Thread **

Turned voltage down a tad to 1.45v load, 1.14v idle and now am at these clocks 100% stable :) On another day I may turn the voltage up and go for 1ghz, wouldn't do it with only 1.48v before :(

Looks good mate,

What are the chance of getting 900mhz on the 4870?

Or don't we know yet?

:)

900mhz on stock vGPU? nil

with pencil mod? Just as likely as the 4850 since they use the same chips...in fact the 4870 may clock even higher because it has a very fancy voltage regulation circuit. Time will only tell though as I don't think many people have 4870s yet.

Have you a pic of the pencil mod?

HIS 4870 I got a few dyas ago...using Overdrive autotune went to 780core, 1090mem. Havent tried to push it up further yet.

Ok finished this cooler !....still got the second one to do

original Saph bios desktop 63c load 86c
My fanfix bios Max load 76c....but fan is only running slowly (fine for stock cooler )
quick 2nd fan mod bios desktop 48c full load 65c and fan is audible but not loud

OK strange things are happening this sapphire bios seems not to have powerplay power states or a fan lookup table like Your bios (how did You get that into Your bios ?).the fan table
I will check out the other makes bioses and work out whats happening

Quickly tried You settings in My bios a no go really ! seem I can only clock at 670/1040 may be the 1.084 volts the bios is set to ! I need to look into this a bit more
So I think I will be able to get these 2 cards running quietly 45c desktop and 65 max, although I'm having a play as I have crossfire I don't really need the cards to run more than 650/1050
670/1058 is about max for this card with the better cooling as a reference thats 14757 marks in 3d2006 sm2 5203 sm3 6648 no cpu

seems not a lot people have 4870 or they just could not be bother overclocking it ?

garusan so 1 ghz was not stable for 4850?

Im having a few problems after flashing a new bios (700/1000) on my xfire cards. They were fine yesterday but they are definatly not 100% today. Ive seen a few artifacts dots in 2D :(

Its started taking a while to load GPUZ like below. I have to change to the sensor tab and back to get it to show properly. it never did this yesterday.

Also my second card is only running at PCI-E x4 , yesterday it was x8 but shouldnt it be x16 on a X38 Asus Maximus ?

My first card looks ok , once gpu-z decides to load.

Ive flashed back to stock bios's but it not cured it.

Ive tried upping the northbridge to 1.5 as i heard it could fix the pci-e bus problem.

i dual boot between XP and Vista and its the same for both. Maybe one or both cards are on there way out. ill try them individually.

Depending what You did to the bios it's best to clean out and reinstall drivers..just swapping bios back will make matters worse, Also optimise 1 card don't try messing with multiple cards and bioses ;)

Hey gurusan well beside You I now have a couple of quiet cool running HD4850 :D
Have You explored the extreems of downclocking/undervolting in 2D clocks
I'm having limited success, Don't think as i've said before you need mega low clocks just low volts... It all gets tricky when the power modes switch ?
