*** The Official Battlefield 5 thread***

As much as I love Mack's videos, I do think he's looking back on BF1942 with one hell of a big pair of rose tinted glasses.
While the maps were huge and it was such a ground breaking game for it's time, I also remember grenade spam, poor gunplay and being absolutely annihilated by planes.

Only had a few games of BFV last night, quite liked Rotterdam, but I really do hate that snow map.
I didnt play BF1942 but did religious play BF2 and BC2.
There is 'something' about this recent run of BF games that just dont feel right. I play them and I am not getting the same experience as I used to, and its not just an age thing.

I guess for me they feel less like a team game now, I used to remember people really working hard to defend flags, being clever with how they played. I dont get that at all nowadays its just run and gun and hope you dont die.

I think the maps are a large part of the issue, they aren't as well designed as they used to be at all.
My best way of summing it up: Set pieces used to be made by the players with the tools in the game, now they have to literally put them in maps for that wow moment. and yes there was nade spam in bf2, and runway kills etc...but it all added up to the experience, because when you were able to push through that it was super satisfying.

^ I'm ok with that. Being hit at close range with full auto should knock you straight on your 'arris.

It's really not much different to BF1942 and BF2 time to kill which was fine then and it's fine now

Has everyone forgotten the nade and rocket spam of 1942 and 2 ?

The lack of cover in the wide open maps, if you were sniper it was literally a turkey shoot on maps like omaha and el alamein ?

Memories get easily jaded on 16 year old games

Tried it today, boring, dumb, mindless shooter imo just like bf1..but worse lol bf games are just large scale cods now, hardly any skill required, everyone runs around like headless chickens and theres no care at all if you die in this game.

I will stick to insurgency and rising storm Vietnam I think
I love Rising Storm 2 when I'm not raging about poor hit detection and invisible walls :D Teamwork is everything in that game along with a good commander, basically what Battlefield used to be like.

Well numbers must be amazing for BF4 and BF1 because it's just another one of those. Some slight tweaks I guess. Spotting enemies has been re-worked but what the hell is this 2x magazines bs? It's just a very frustrating addition. I'm bored after about 2 hours of the beta honestly. Would love to have tried their battleroyal mode but for the classic game types are just the same as they have ever been. Yawnfest.

oh joy, Origin playing silly buggers again this evening, no friends list once more. Great news for a Friday night.

Edit. Seems like it's working now. Although Discord having issues now

I think I'm well in the minority here, but from what I've played so far I think it's pretty ****.

Stylistically it's so OTT, it's impossible to pick people out on both maps sometimes. The gunplay & speed, in general, feels really quick too; if it was a 'blind test' I would honestly think this was a CoD title.

I don't understand why they'd want to copy COD either as it seems like that franchise is on the downward spiral, I mean it's definitely dead on the PC.

At least a Battlefield game is nor released every year...

Does look good, runs well and fun for a blast but feeling pretty uninspired in general.

All very samey and not a fan of the changes, seems medic and support are even more unappreciated this time too. Still lots of those weird building on corners but very little depth in the maps, 90% of the Rotterdam buildings are blocked up.

Keep getting kicked off servers with random disconnects tonight. To the point I’ve been playing for 2 hours and not actually managed to complete a round...

I do wonder why the maps are not the same size as BF Project Reality with 128 > 256 players; this is already being done by games such as Rising Storm 2 & Project Reality & Squad.

IMO Consoles are destroying PC gaming due to the money involved, hardware cannot keep up at a 'fair pace' & 'fair price'. We used to spend hours and hours on Xbox 360 paying BC1 and then BC2 came out on PC and it was awesome yet held back by hardware, which you could tell due to the map size.

People expect the next Xbox 1180? and PS5 to compete when in reality they never will, it's several years old tech designed with a price point. This shows in game design.

Enjoyed it to be honest.

Main problem I've had is seriously suffering from crashing, longest stretch I've had is 1 hour but sometimes it'll just crash to desktop after 5 minutes of play, not fun. A Beta though at the end of the day.

Well this seems to be a new bug, you'll randomly get kicked from a game while still attached to a squad, and unless you're the squad leader you can't join another server.
