***The Official Blackberry Playbook Thread***

Haven't kept up to date with it but there is talk about this getting blackberry 10 OS and of course there will be updates to the Android compatibility.

It is a good device, only selling mine because I need the money for a trip to Australia next year and the fact that I got a free galaxy tab with a camera I've just bought.

After looking at the alternatives... I'm still very interested in the playbook. It's either that or I fork out a little more for the Nexus (which would be very good obviously). Will see.

I just like the quality of the hardware compared to the alternatives.

sold mine and prefer my £50 archos one.................just easier to get everything to work as it should...............

its a wonderful piece it kit...................just so woefully let down by software

any news on bb10?

Nope, nothing yet...im pretty certain we may never see BB10 on the playbook...my thinking is that BB are having a hard time trying to get BB10 onto the playbook due to the outdated specs and it probably doesnt run very well if they have a BB10 version for it.

just picked a refurb 64gb mainly to plug into the tv and use as a media player

is the kalemsoft video player the best one to go for?

or can i sideload an android one

Just thought I'd do a bit of thread revival.

Just bought my second PlayBook. Second hand but mint with a few accessories, 64gb for £50 odd quid.

Unbelievable really if you think of it as a high quality media player with a great browser and mailer thrown in. Entirely understandable if you think of it as a rubbish tablet.

One of the main reasons I bought it was that it came with a rapid charger. This as it turned out allowed me to recover my old PlayBook which had lain dormant thanks to the 0% battery level charging bug which meant the standard charger never provided enough current to start it back up. And absolutely epic design failure.

Still, I took a punt and it paid off.

In terms of media and Internet I find it much better than my Nexus 7, which incidentally took much tinkering to speed back up after it had slowly become terribly laggy and choppy over time.

Anyway, it's now got 60gb of kids films on here now so I probably won't use it again :-)

i didnt want to open my own thread, and saw this one pop up! whats BB os 10 like??? because i can pick up a BB Z10 smartphone new for 149. is it worth it?

I had a 64gb version and it was absolutely great, with the glaring omission of basic essential apps like netflix/skype etc. The quality of the unit really was good and the screen was fantastic. I struggled to get used to android again after not having the bezel gestures!

The abandonment by RIM/Blackberry pee'd me off when they decided to not support their only tablet with BB10, and combined with the missing essential apps... well that was the end game for me. If they had even bothered to put a PC and android app for video calls it would have worked fine.. but they couldn't be bothered... so why should I bother with them?

playbooks were amazing tech wise and great screen with hdmi out but as said the app side and lack of skype support and sky go etc

My favourite app story for the play book was the price of angry birds.

At one time IIRC it was android at 59p or thereabouts, iOS approximately10p more. Playbook....£5.

Unbelievable.

yeah such a shame the app store let them down.............probably still life in the app store if it was sorted out......
