Some classic quotes from Tyson's dad at the news conference!

Tyson's father John Fury begins by saying "I haven't really got much more to say".

It turns out that he has.

"If there is such as thing as the 8th wonder of the world, then you're looking at it. My son. He had people disbelieving him, people discrediting him.", he says.

"Times do change, people move over to a new beginning. This is a new beginning in boxing. This has never been done before, and will never be done again."

He then singles out one reporter whom he calls a 'disbeliever' - "we've had a million people like you", he says, before going on to compare David Haye to the lion from the Wizard of Oz, saying he lacks courage.

"We cornered Wladimir Klitschko - we had four world title eliminators, and we defeated him, humiliated him. It was the sweetest moment ever. And believe you me, there's a lot more to come from Tyson Fury."

He challenges the assembled journalists, whom he calls 'plastic', standing up and commanding "Get up and bow to my son, every one of you".

The 50-year old John Fury then challenges Lennox Lewis to a fight!

I would like to know what the Haye fight grossed when compared to Saturday nights.

Can you (or anyone else for that matter) provide the info.

It would be interesting to know...

Haye is widely quoted as earning £15 million from the Kiltschko fight, and they agreed a 50/50 purse split.

Klitschko earned £18 million v Fury (+ sponsorship & ppv).

If true, the Haye fight grossed plenty more than the Fury fight as Fury took a purse of £5.5 million.

Build up to the Haye Klitschko fight was anticipating perhaps £40 million, whereas Fury's bout was looking more like £30 million. Accurate figures would be hard to come by, as it's taken from a variety of markets.

You get better figures when it's a big US event, since they just count the domestic takings, and exports aren't usually significant enough to worry about.

Can I ask where you get those figures? Haye earned £15 million with a 50/50 split. 2x15 = £30 million which is £6.5 million more than the Fury fight. I dont care what anyone personally earns through sponsorship, thats not the purse.

EDIT: Maybe the Fury fight grossed less because BoxNation pulled out and left them £10 million short?

Various news reports in advance of the fights. Worth remembering that the "gross" is just that - gross. Fighters split what's left after promoters etc.

As its so widely reported, can you post some links plz?
You always seem to post "anticipated" instead of post fight facts. I posted post fight figures whicj most people would think are more accurate than a guess.

Yes, and that's called the purse. Which is ehat we're interested in.
Nate75 asked for best figures, not pure fantasy about a 3 yr old fight.

Pretty sure we were talking about the gross, mate. Y'know, where Nate asked about what the fight grossed. And he, y'know, asked about the "3 yr old fight" (4 years old)

A simple google of "klitschko haye gross" gives you lots of best-guess pre-fight articles for takings. Similarly "klitschko Fury gross". Pre or post-fight, it's all a guess anyway - the figures don't get published in European fights. it's only the americans who put the figures out there.

Please tell me there is someone out there to shut Fury up. He is such an uncultured Champion.

Klitschko was terrible on Sat. Was it just an off day or was he just old?

Yeah I think it's always been planned to be PPV, joke of a fight for PPV anyway. Big world title fights like last weekends fair enough, domestic level dust ups where one guy is going to win in 1-3 rounds absolutely not!

Anyone see the gloves are off? Whyte calling Joshua a scumbag has to be one of the most hypocritical things I've heard, when he's asking the guy for a street fight :D

How do we think Whyte will cope with joshua this time? I know he beat him years ago but he's a different boxer to back then.
