We’ll see what happens he’s obviously disappointed immediately after losing a fight but may feel differently once he’s sat down with his team.

For me he has to take the rematch to right the wrongs of this fight. AJ took the immediate rematch twice and improved in both fights. He’s worked hard to get where he is in such a short space of time, would be a shame to see it wasted. Ultimately he has to do what’s right for him.

As I said, in that interview he didn't sound like somebody that was too keen on the rematch anytime soon. You often see the opposite where fighters talk up the rematch (probably pride talking) only to not take it so it would be a surprise if Joyce were to take the rematch having played down the chances of it happening.

He'll want to make as much money as he can in the time he's got left boxing and if the rematch is the biggest fight on the table for him then maybe he takes it. I mentioned the possibility of a Whyte fight in my earlier post but having just watched a Whyte interview with IFL, he seemed to rule the fight out now that Joyce has lost. Unfortunately for Joyce he doesn't have much going for him - he's not quite good enough to be a big draw himself and he's too good for the big draw fighters to want to take any risk fighting him.

Hence why i said he should go for the rematch. The mandatory spot is leverage to attract fighters to you that normally won’t take the big risk, low reward type of fights.

My opinion is my opinion though Joyce will do what he feels is right for him.

His team can train head movement and a better defence but I doubt he has the hand speed to switch from defence to offense without getting caught just as easily as he did last night.

I've no idea what his game plan was but the idea that his chin can get him through fights is in tatters. He got rocked multiple times in the first two rounds and although Zhang appears to be a big puncher, Joyce made it way too easy for him and I don't see that changing if he comes in heavier in a rematch.

Zhang's struggled with much smaller HW's so I could see Usyk dominating him on points, an actual big puncher like Wilder putting him in his grave and Fury could beat him with one hand tied behind his back. I see Joyce, I see a fighter of the level of Matt Skelton.

Edit: Beat me too it :D

Joyce maybe has an edge in footwork, so taking a round or two moving while trying bluff Zhang into a right lead counter might make some sense. I think, ultimately those two styles come down to who can tuck up the and bite down on the gum shield the hardest.

Joyce dropping weight didn’t seem to make any difference to his speed, so I’d hope next time he comes in at a good 19 stone. At least then he could try to lean on Zhang if things aren’t going his way.

I find it funny when people say he can be trained head movement….why hasn’t he been trained this already? It’s not like it’s a secret.

I don’t think anyone has said he’s going to become the second coming of Ali though. He’s called the Juggernaut because that’s what he is, even though he took to boxing very late he still worked his way into a mandatory spot for a World Title. He turned pro very late and therefore has had to take big challenges after big challenges. Give the guy a break he’s a throwback fighter that takes risks. No one fancy’s themselves against him for a reason.

Fair point, it just amuses me that people think boxers just change styles with a bit of training because a fight shows up a weakness.

Opinions seem to be divided on this but I’m on the side of people like Peter Fury (the naughty sod) Hatman ect .
Take the rematch Joe which I think he ultimately will.

I know hes a heavyweight but dear god Joyce has absolutely no speed to his punches and I don't think I have ever seen a boxing match where one guy looked so much better than the other. I have watched bouts where one guy just outclasses the other but Zhang hit Joyce with powerful punches at will. Joyce looked like an absolute punter in there.

On a related note, how on earth has boxing still not cleared up its scoring. Joyce was absolutely pummelled in there. He looked like a guy who had just taken up boxing. He was a punching bag.

He certainly didn’t cover himself in glory in that fight and got quite a lot wrong.

He’s never been a slick boxer and never will be, he looks very slow and very, very average to the casual observer but that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Public perception dictates your only as good as your last fight, so it means he’s no good as the public have also dictated with AJ.

Wilder is embarrassing himself again. Says he’ll stop Joshua and knock Fury out next time. Zero mention of not even proving himself as the best in America.

His words were.

“Knockout. Easy. Straight on the ground. He won’t have all [those] added preservatives.”
Still gracious in defeat I see.
As long as he doesn’t wear his suit to the ring I’d probably agree with him.

He should have his artificially inflated boxing rankings reduced, due to refusing to fight in a WBC eliminator against Andy Ruiz Jr.

He has one of the worse resumes of any long standing Heavyweight Champion with no real notable names at all.
