Disagree with that completely. Yes he can question why the fight wasn't stopped but Blackwell was still coming forward and throwing punches. Eubank Snr is still trying to control his son and undermine the corner and they rightly ignored him.

what :confused::confused::confused:

He was telling his son to hit the body because Blackwell was gonna get seriously hurt!

Not once did he say that to him in the ring. The commentators quoted him as saying something like cut the trunk and the tree will fall. It had absolutely nothing to do with protecting Blackwell FFS.

Edit: And the clip from the Daily Mail even has Eubank saying don't leave it to the referee meaning take him out.

No one was concerned about Blackwell until he collapsed in the ring and no one had reason to be concerned before that.

He never mentioned cut the trunk and the tree will fall did you even watch the fight?

I saw his comments live

He said this kid is getting badly hurt I don't know why the referee hasn't stopped the fight

"If the referee doesn't stop it then, I don't know what to tell you, but I will tell you this, if he doesn't stop it and we keep beating him like this, he is getting hurt, and if it goes to a decision why didn't the referee stop the fight, I don't get why".

Eubank snr was telling him to hit the body due to what happened to Watson

Blackwells corner should have pulled him out he took a beating from the get go and never looked to hurt eubank. As for saunders the guy is a disgrace! Mate stretchered out the ring on a stretcher and saunders more concerned with shoving his belt in eubanks face

He'll soon get taken out by eubanks

I don't need to prove anything like the majority who are all praising eubanks snr both on forums and the media I believe his words ring true to stop Blackwell getting seriously hurt

END OF

I don't care much for Eubank but it seems clear to me from that video he's worried about the damage to Blackwell and telling his son to hit the body to avoid any further damage.

That's all well and good but he was saying go to the body 2 or 3 rounds previous to the video when Blackwells eye wasn't anywhere near as bad as it was.

Edit:
Chris Eubank Snr said:
He's a hard nut to break... break, break the trunk and the tree will fall.

Edit:
Chris Eubank Snr said:
You're not going to take him out to the face, you're going to take him out to the body.

I'm sure it was at the end of round 8 not 9 and when looking at the full quote there's a distinctive reason why he's telling him not to hit the face as he's getting hurt, at the end of round 4 he mentions nothing of the sort.

I think the reality is somewhere in the middle.

Snr was asking the ref to stop the fight during the rounds (I think the ref even went over to have a word with him at some point during the breaks?) and he was genuinely confused as to why the fight hadn't been stopped.

However I think the "body" comment was more likely referring to the fact that Jnr wasn't going to knock him out with a head punch so he was better off going to the body.

I think Blackwell's corner should have pulled him out earlier, most sensible corners pull their man out when they can see he's getting hit far too cleanly and doesn't have a grip on the fight. Throwing a few punches back is not enough to justify keeping on fighting in my eyes, especially when there is no power in the punches and the fighter is way down on points.

If the belt was held by Eubank I think his corner would've pulled him but while he still had a puncher's chance, even if it was a very slim one, and looked the fresher fighter I don't think that would've crossed their minds. Thankfully the damage to his eye forced the referee to involve the doctor or it could've been a lot worse for Blackwell.

I just feel the media should be concentrating on the wellbeing of Blackwell rather than creating a story which forces people to question the safety of boxing again :(

And for anyone interested, Eubank has form when it comes to referees. He's publicly questioned them before fights (BJS springs to mind) and has done so after fights as well. I do believe that is because he is genuinely concerned about their safety but it's not always appropriate for him to make comments like that.

I don't think that Blackwell looked much fresher (although I might watch it again to be sure), Eubank was throwing combinations of punches then conserving energy and riding out the round. Blackwells face/nose was a mess and Eubank was landing those uppercuts pretty much at will, I do recall thinking "ouch" because the head was moving back quite a bit. In comparison Blackwell was not landing anything as significantly damaging.

I'm watching it again now from the start. Bit weird to be watching it knowing that he's now in hospital but I guess it's naive to think that when watching any sort of contact sport as we know all too well how quickly things can go wrong.

Yep, just need to be thankful the general safety and medical care offered during and after a fight has improved to the level it has now. Not sure if Blackwell was put in to the coma immediately after the fight but there was an anaesthetist working on him within minutes of him collapsing.

Eubank controlled the fight on the back foot, it was fought at his pace. Eubank was tired at times but only after throwing huge combos, it was not due to taking punches. He landed many more cleaner shots and was generally getting hit due to his low guard, especially early on. I can count probably two power punches landed by Blackwell and I lost count of the number of uppercuts landed by Eubank.

Snr clearly stated before the 10th that he wanted Jnr to take him out and not let it go do a decision.

It probably would have been seen as a controversial decision but it could have been stopped in the 8th. Tough one to call but I still stick by my earlier comments, Blackwell was always behind and was never going to win in my eyes.

Commentators talked a load of nonsense as usual.

So David Haye had press conference earlier to announce his next fight in may against yet another unknown ranked 35th in the world

Was quality when Shannon briggs stormed the press conference though calling haye out as usual

What is it with haye and press conferences :p :D

"Lets go champ" :D :D
