*** The Official Boxing Thread ***Do Not Discuss Illegal Streams

Thing is they're not daft they'd never take a proper fight against a proper boxer cos that would then smash the illusion of legitimacy, keeping it in their own little youtuber universe and bringing in sideshow attractions like Tommy Fury (who if he was fighting at his pro level rather than celebrity level would be at your local leisure centre) makes the money.

Fair play to them they've found a niche and are fleecing punters in it. But I'll stick to wrestling for my scripted entertainment thanks :p

Surprised to see this thread a hive of activity after a misfits fight. I didn’t watch it as I have no interest in it but I really respect what they’re doing.

As for those saying it’s ruining boxing. Get a grip. Boxing is ruining itself at least misfits is giving its audience fights that their fans want to see and you can’t blame the YouTubers for having more profile than the fighters. Ultimately they’re still getting in the ring to throw hands in packed out stadiums. They've got a lot more balls than most of us sat on the side lines, more than me that's for sure.

Boxing is still the main meal but things like this crossover boxing is a nice side-dish if you're into the characters.

What's killing boxing is so called professionals popping dirty, not making the fights the fans want to see and always 'marinating' a fight. The sanctioning bodies are killing boxing with making every division have a regular/super champion or the WBC not enforcing a mandatory heavyweight challenger or allowing Charlo to go almost 2 years without defending his belt.

Boxing is doing a fantastic job of killing itself. Misfits is not going to speed up boxings demise but it'll certainly show traditional boxing how to get popular.

It's very telling that a Misfits fight on this forum got significantly more traction than a welterweight, undisputed fight between Crawford and Spence. That is shocking but it is not on Misfits.

For me, it was supposed to be the long awaiting crossover...
A "proper" boxer taking on a jumped up celebrity fighter.
I watched as I was (wrongly) expecting this to end the hype train of these part time prize fights being legitimate "boxers".

Never watched a "misfits" event till this one, don't expect I will do again...

getting more replies here because it is something new and different, a novelty.

many are bored or frustrated of regular boxing or like me fed up with Refs stopping fights too early, especially when it suits the home fighter.

I am more frustrated by the lack of big fights. The casual fan likes to see a name they know fight and these YouTubers or whatever you want to call them tick that box.

Boxing needs such a overhaul it's beyond broken.

All the major sports have had it over the last 30 years.

If it was not for the Saudi money I doubt we would be seeing the usyk v fury

What part of watching Tommy Fury lead you to believe you were watching a professional fighter against a celebrity? It was influencer vs influencer. Tommy wouldn’t even pick up a regional belt let alone a British championship.

How many times has a referee genuinely stopped a fight early? If you’re referring to the Woods vs Warrington bout a week or so ago that’s nothing about a fight being stopped early and everything to do with people not understanding the rules. That was a good stoppage.

Unless you’re referring to a different fight?

Boxing needs a huge change. I’d almost be in favour of UFC style shake up where there is a proper procedure to title eliminations and mandatory title shots.

There’s too much politics. It’s at a point now we should call it an entertainment product first and a sport second because there’s too many moving cogs getting in the way of genuinely division defining fights.

I’m not saying we should go back to the 80s where fighters were out a month after a knock out but I do think 3-4 fights a year should be the minimum expected of a champion.

no the Warrington stoppage was fair enough, he was knocked down hard and had his back turned when the ref was counting.

Im talking about all the fights I have seen in the last few years where i have waited months on end to see the fight and one fighter puts on a sustained combo and they are still on their feet and 95% of the shots are being blocked but the Ref jumps in and calls it off when the guy has not been hurt.
And its always in the favour of the home fighter, usually Eddie Hearn fighters. I think he is a dodgy cheat and the Refs are in his pocket.

There have been a few soft stoppages and sadly we are starting to get the reputation Germany had when it comes to the judges.

I like seeing maximum violence as much as the next person but the referees do have a duty of care to the fighters. I don't want to see anyone hurt more than necessary

I guess all the pre-fight about coming from a fighting family, the access to resources and expertise, his clearly awesome physical condition and appearing to be in a world class pre-fight camp with his half brother :D

Boxing does need a shake-up, but this influencer nonsense is not it!

I couldn't bring myself to watch that, just aweful.
From what I can tell from the commets here I'll take it either to be a draw or a tommy win. Also i'll agree with what Shane says about his younger brother.

I just watched some of the “highlights” from the Tommy KSI fight. I’m struggling for orientation, but this type of event shouldn’t be promoted as professional boxing… maybe not even fighting.

Agreed, sadly it's a very split and divided sport. With broadcasting rights per boxer making it so long winded to see a top fight

Yup. It's mental. It doesn't work but I always try and imagine boxing like another 'proper' sport such as football or even something like tennis.

The fact we could have a undisputed fight made but because the fighters, promoters or some other handler doesn't like the other team, the fight wont get made... Remember the whole 'cross the street' thing Crawford had to go through to be able to unify with Spence. Hell, they even tried to act like he didn't exist!

It's getting to the point that the show is getting run on vibes and vibes alone. Ridiculous.

Imagine getting to a champions league final but Man City's owners didn't like Real Madrid's owners so the match gets cancelled and never happens.

Kalle was onto something with the Boxing Super Series events he had going on.

It's so far gone that I wonder if it can ever be fixed if I'm honest, at least not without completely crumbling to pieces first and then rebuilding. It's a sport with a long history of corruption woven into it so nothing will change whilst those foundations are still there.

As above, the UFC model is pretty much the only way you can see it working effectively in the modern era, cut out all the nonsense with fighters, promotors and the various organizations calling the shots, have the fighters all under one roof with consistent fight schedules, drug testing and officiating. Super series tournaments to merge all the belts into one unified title for each weight class (or at least decide a champion) and start from there, it would be brilliant, but they'd never give up their share of the pot to make that happen. It could take a new organisation to come along and build up over a couple of decades, make bags of money and entice fighters over to make the others obsolete for that to ever happen, but then that could just backfire and we end up with another extra belt .

It must be so confusing for casual fans these days as well, my Mrs bless her actually doesn't mind watching it with us if it's on and tries her best to keep up. When you have to try explaining things like the whole undisputed heavyweight fight we all want to happen it just becomes a rabbit hole and you see how silly it's all become:

So who's the champ? Fury or Usyk? Why does he have one belt and the other has more? Why does he have to do mandatory fights and the other doesn't? How does Fury get to fight the UFC guy then? TV just said there's an interim champ, who/what's that? How many of those are there? Google says there's a Regular Champion/Super Champion and a Silver Champion as well, what are those? Why does he get/want more money than the other guy? Why is it on different channels, Sky, BT, DAZN?

Ha, when you put it out like that’s it’s a complete mess.

No! Joshua Buatsi vs Dan Azeez is off due to Azeez suffering a back injury - though rumours are it being poor ticket sales. I wanted to go but my usual boxing partner didn’t.

Was looking forward to this. Sad.

Catterall vs Linares.
I'm yet to be convinced by Catterall. The Taylor fight was horrible and every fight I've seen him in since has been scrappy. Linares should be well past it but so far he's looked competitive.

Another dull affair. No danger of JC losing but he's a boring fighter to watch for me
