*** The Official Boxing Thread ***Do Not Discuss Illegal Streams

Fury is not the draw Warren and Fury would lead you to believe and it's why he can't keep AJ's name out of his mouth whenever it's fight week.

Look up the top 10 UK PPVs of all time and count how many times you see Fury on that list

Not surprised at all. They set the price too high they wanted the same money as AJ v Usyk 2 and I thought that was too high as well, but it was a much bigger fight.

Fury - Usyk will do much better provided they don’t get even greedier on the PPV price.

And people think Fury is a man of the people. Raising the price of a PPV in the middle of a cost of living crisis for a glorified sparring session with his pal.

Yep, he's a man of the people alright. A man who loves conning them.

This one wasn't even worth to attempt to stream.

I'll pay for the Usyk fight if only to hopefully see the 'small blown up middleweight ' do an absolute number on Fury. That night, I'm turning Ukrainian.

I almost always cheer on the British fighter but this time I’m seriously hoping he gets served a big dollop of humble pie. The look on Brick tops face and the excuses that follow will just be the cherry on the cake.

On another note I red an interesting comment from someone earlier. He made the point that the Fury Usyk fight will likely have a rematch clause and we will probably see both the WBA and IBF titles vacated after the first fight.

The WBA have just ordered Usyk vs Dubois as mandatory.

This why they should always just get undisputed fights signed whilst they can because the organisations need to move on

This Eddie Hearn vs Lawrence Okolie situation is getting rather interesting. At first I thought it was Lawrence who was in the wrong but as more comes out, Eddie is looking a bit scummy for whats happening.

He's not having the best year really. His big names in AJ and Canelo losing, losing out on a star in Haney becoming undisputed, DAZN having to do PPVs after declaring them dead and now he always prided himself on not being bitter like the older promoters and ending up in court with his fighters but that's literally what's about to happen with Okolie.

He's undoubtably one of if not the biggest world wide promoter but he is having a nightmare of a year

Is he going to court with Okolie? From what I could gather from the two IFL interviews, one with Okolie and one with Hearn, was that although there's some dispute over whether Okolie does still have 1 fight left with Hearn, it's ultimately irrelevant because time overrides the length (in fight terms) of the agreement* and enough time has passed to void any agreement Okolie had with Matchroom, which Hearn seemingly conceded. What Hearn did seem to hint at is possible legal action against boxxer for approaching Okolie while he was (in Hearn's view) still under contract.

*basically a fighter cannot be held under a contract with x amount of fights indefinitely because a promoter could abuse that by offering them 1 fight every 2 years.

It's looking like it may go that way but I'm sure both would rather it didn't. It all seems to stem around the fight in the garden but if that's the case it's quite scummy from Hearn.

Currently watching an interview with his Brother who seems to be able to talk about a lot more

I'm the first person to criticise Hearn but if as he says (and it's always an if with Hearn) Okolie was paid a smaller amount than what was set out in his contract for that fight then why didn't Okolie kick up a fuss then? I suspect Hearn is telling the truth here. Okolie's opponent dropped out so Hearn made him an offer to have a tick over fight for less money, outside of his contract rather than him going without a fight for x months. It's possible that Okolie didn't fully understand the implications and that he'd have another fight or he's trying it on after Sky made him a huge offer.

As above though, this dispute over whether there is 1 fight left ultimately seems irrelevant now as enough time has passed in order for Okolie to get out of his agreement with Hearn, even if he does still have a fight left.

But I think that's on both of them. Ultimately he still had a fight. If it came out after the fact that "hold on, that fight doesn't count" that's scummy and should've been made clear before the fight.

I feel most of this is it being down to Sky and Boxer and Okolie being caught in the war between them and Matchroom. If he's done nothing but lose money on his shows he should've been happy to see the end of them. Lets be honest Okolie doesn't really have a fan friendly style (Though Shane has done a tremendous job making him a bit better on the eyes)

I like Hearn but he's having a bit of a stinker period. I even forgot about the whole Benn ordeal

edit: Unrelated but it seems AJ is shopping for a new trainer again. Appears to have left Garcia and has popped up at Derick James, Errol Spence and one of the Charlo brothers trainers, Gym. I actually thought Garcia was a good fit but AJ needs to go to America where he has to earn some respect in their gyms rather than training with the GB Squad. He needs to get some dog put back into him if he wants to return to the top. Was listening to a good point about when Lewis lost to Oliver McCall he hired his trainer, Manny Steward, to fill in the gaps as he was obviously smart enough to see them.

He just seems so lost at the moment

Re the first part, I don't think Hearn said it after the event. The key is the fact (at least according to Hearn) that Okolie was paid less for that fight - that's only happening if Okolie agreed to it and that makes me fairly sure that Okolie signed up for that fight outside of his contract. Again, that's all meaningless as the time ran out for Hearn to squeeze in that extra fight.

You're right about Okolie being stuck in the middle of a battle between Sky/boxxer and Matchroom though and what I don't like, and it's something Johnny Nelson spoke about weeks ago, was the legal threats Matchroom were making to Okolie and trying to silence him. As Nelson said, Matchroom probably have an in house solicitor so all this legal back and forth costs them nothing but a fighter is having to pay out for advice. Thankfully Okolie could afford to get the advice he needed however there will be fighters that cannot afford to get legal advice and will be scared into silence by promoters threatening them.

The silly thing is if Okolie had that fight he apparently owes he’d been be done and dusted already.

To be fair to Hearn he doesn’t seem to have many or any issues with his fighters so this is quite unusual.

Then Billam-Smith fight looks like they're both in different weight classes although he's losing to the smaller Xhoxhaj?
