*****The Official Canon 5DMK3 Thread*****

For now.. but during the wait you can pick-up a 5DI or mkII...
(maybe you should look for a cheap D700?)

canon dont make 5d1 anymore so it would be a second hand one that has probably been used and abused.

And When canon stop making a 5dmk2, we are then forced to spend near 3k mark for an entry level camera.

i dont really want a 5dmk2, especially at the current price point because of its AF system, but if it was below 1k, i may bite the bullet and live with it.

The thing is mate, i am after an all rounder that can do loads of things well.

if i was using nikon, i would have already bought a d700 no questions asked because that camera i have praised so highly over the 5dmk2 as it is THE CAMERA i want! great AF, great IQ and FF.

im basically after a camera that will last me 10+ years and the d700/d800 and 5dmk3 are the top contenders for me.

My mum owns this

As you can see, thats easily 20+ years old and still going strong. incidently, the build quality of that compared to todays DSLR is nigth and day. how come they dont make camera bodies like that anymore instead of using cheap plastic?

Don't expect 5Diii pricing to remain so high if the below amazon figures are any real indication of popularity.

Yea i dont think many hobbiest will buy a 5dmk3. 3k for body alone? i expect a L lens to be included for that price.

Dont forget, Glass > Body.

if a hobbiest had £3k spare change, that person would probably buy L lens instead, two infact and use the rest to go on holiday and use it on their current body.

Dont forget, Glass > Body.

In terms of actual performance difference, it depends on the body and the glass. 85mm 1.8 on a 5D, is like a 85mm 1.2 on a 7D.
Glass retains it's value for longer, hence why it is often recommended to spend cash on a lens over a body, as it's more of a prudent long-term investment.

Glass is glass, but if your body doesn't deliver the DR, ISO or AF performance that you want then the glass isn't going to perform as you want. It's a vicious wicked circle of expense! :D

Looks like people are going to be happy in both camps, although I'm not seeing why I need to pay an extra £600 for the Canon!..

Personally I like (and understand) the Canon lens lineup better, ultimately I'd like to have the 35L, 50L, 85L and 135L. I have to ask myself how realistic this would be though... but these lenses along with the 70-200 f2.8 and something longer will suit me for all I shoot. The 85L I would possibly actually go for the Sigma 85mm f1.4 due to the faster focussing. I already have a 100mm for macro stuff and a cheap wide and walk around zoom for the rare times that I use them. So I'm probably going to stick with Canon and see how prices sort themselves out through the year.

i would go for a 24L, 50L and 70-200L. best setup. no point getting a 135L if your gunna get a 70-200L especially f2.8 version. that lens is PRIME quality no joke mate.

And yes, 5dmk3 is £600 expensive. £2400 max. i hope it goes down to £2k end of the year.
