*****The Official Canon 5DMK3 Thread*****

You still have to pay the equivilant of VAT tax on the goods you buy. Unlike here in the UK, it's not automatically included in the price, so you have to remember to add to that whatever the rate for the state is.

I see a few sites are offering preorders now. I was really ready to get one, but it is at least £600-700 more than I thought it would be. Im wondering once it's freely available on shelves whether the retailers will start lowering the price.

Cool so i probably wont save much buying in the states? how does warranty work? is it a worldwide warranty?

£639 pre order online for the 600ex. Wonder how long 580ex stock will last.

£679 for the RT version and a whopping £309 for the Canon ST-E3-RT. I love the sound of what the system can do but that ST needs to lose £120 and the RT speedlite £150 to make it a viable alternative to what's already out there.

When the 600RT is £500 I will be all over it.

You would save a little over the UK price, but not a significant amount.

Canon warranty is only valid in the country of purchase. Also depending on the charger they've used it might require a power adapter to use in the UK, the one supplied with the 350D I bought in Canada required me to do so.

Nice specs.

Bear in mind the SRP of the 5D Mark II is £2300, but retails around £1500-1600, so the price of the MKIII may well settle around the £2400 to £2500 mark I suspect, possibly a little less.

It does make the Mark II look a bit of a bargain though :D

Also makes the D800 look a bit of a bargain too, which is odd, I've historically always found Nikon to be a little more expensive than Canon but the D800 is on preorder for ~£2400 vs ~£3000 for the 5DIII, I like the 5DIII a lot, it's almost exactly what I want in a Camera but that's not pocket change.

Still, I'll give it 6 months and see I think. Cost of appropriate glass is also relevant of course (ie. Canon L glass is usually about 5-10% less than equivalent Nikon glass in my experience) as is availability right now with Nikon primes...

It has too really.

I would imagine that it's just going to take the remaining new stocks of 5D mk2 to dry up and the 5D mk3 to be readily available on the market for retailers.

Quite agree, as a manufacturer you wouldn't want your retail channels to take too much of a hit on 'old' stock, so although I suspect the MkII might take a £50 to £100 price drop, I wouldn't expect too much a price change on it. As you say when stocks of the MKII dry up, probably within 6 months if that, then the MkIII will probably come down to what the SRP of the MKII is at presently.

The price of the MKIII and the new 24-70mm MKII lens is interesting...over £5k!

What it does go to show is how much of a bargain the Nikon D800 is, particularly if the image quality is there.

I'm waiting for the cameras to be released and for some proper hands on reviews and RAW comparisons. Comparing poor demo jpegs is pretty pointless.

ISO performance...

Will hold fire before deciding which way to go from my D700. If it wasn't that I would have to change everything, in many ways, this seems to be the logical upgrade for someone looking for a new D700 type camera (i.e. good at everything).

Good at everything?
For starters the ISO look horrendous, allot worse than the D800...

Looking at the spec list there is not much to choose between the D800 vs 5D Mark III, apart from the number of mega pixels.

I have used various types of Nikon and Canon bodies in the past and I personally prefer the Nikon button configuration.

In favour of the Nikon D800 body, it is lighter, has onboard flash (sometimes handy) and the grip always been designed for people with bigger hands.

I doubt many of you us will be shooting at those crazy ISO range, I think if both cameras produce similar results at ISO 6400, then I'm pretty much sold on the Nikon D800.

Yes the MP is huge, but you can always lower it down to a range your comfortable with.

Long story short, based on the spec sheet the nikon just seems more versatile option and it is cheaper RRP.

But I'm more interested in what Nikon will do with the D400. How I would love a full frame camera similar spec as D700 in a price range of £1500-2000.
