*****The Official Canon 5DMK3 Thread*****

Not necessarily, but at its current 3k price point the majority of purchasers will be those who can make that money back with it.

yea true. hence this camera may sell poorly. especially in this current economy climate. Who in here has spare 3k cash lol and even if you do have 3k spare cash, U prepard to drop that on a camera body where you could possibly pay for a trip in orlando florida and buy yourself a nice L lens instead and still have money left?

Who in here would drop 3k on a camera body over other things?

As said earlier in the thread, the price will eventually drop to that of one closer to what the mk2 retails for.

For that to happen though, the 5D mk2 stocks have to be depleted and there has to be a good supply of 5D mk3s in the stores, which aren't just flying out like hotcakes the second they get them in.

Do u reckon it will drop to 2k this time next year?

The problem with that though is that I think sales of the mk3 won't be very high, as it will only be the pros who need the better AF performance buying it. In a studio environment and for portraiture type work, the mk2 will still do the job, so even some Pros might not see the benefit in the extra for the mk3.

As I've said before, the mk2 was a massive camera for Canon, if you look at the Flickr stats, it's the most used Canon camera on there by quite a margin. That's a good reflection of just how many amateurs bought it, likely far outweighing the number of Pros.

if sales ae not high, aint that a good thing as canon will decrease the price?

Of course, but then why have the old model on sale at all?

To get people to buy that instead? even at 1.6k, people will choose the dmk2 over the 5dmk3 if people dont care about AF.

So end of the day, there are two reasons why mk3 wont sell well.

1. 5dmk2 is still being sold and for half the price of a mk3
2. MK3 is way over price for most hobbiest.

And that's when I'll buy it. I want the 24-70 too, which is a huge outlay in one go :(

i know what you mean mate.

Also i can see this being 1k cheaper next year. The 5dmk3 wont sell off the shelf for the reasons i have stated earlier

I'll be getting this ASAP provided that there's no major downside to getting it from the US when I'm over there. I love the mark 2, it's my baby, but the autofocus has let me down on numerous low light occasions and I'd happily pay for the mark 2 with fixed autofocus without all the other bonuses from buying the mark 3

No warranty mate if you get it in the USA and when your dorpping serious money, you want some warranty on it mate

Is it just me or am i the only one thats HUGELY impressed with the silent mode shutter! that is such a killer feature to have for any street/wedding/church togs out there!

Our best hope is that it just doesn't sell well, that'll see the price come down sharpish! The 5D2 has dropped £800 in 3 1/2 years (£2300 to £1500)... On the more expensive cameras the 1D4 has dropped £1100 in just over two years (£4500 to £3400) and the 1Ds3 only £400 (£5499 to £5099, although it was around £3400 for a six month period 2010/2011).

the thing is, the 5dmk2 was such a steo up from the 5dc and at a very very attractive price, it sold bucket loads hench taking 3 years to go down to 1k in price.

for the 5dmk3 i just dont see it having similar impact as the mk2.

1. price point is way too high
2. only killer feature it has is 1dx AF system

Plus selling a 5dmk2 alongside a mk3 is another big reason that will help 5dmk3 not get sold much either as people will look and say umm, for half price i can get a mk2 which produces same IQ but missing just the AF system. yea i can live with that, canon her eis your money for the mk2. ta ta

Better weather sealing and ergonomics, better metering, better in low light, 100% vf, dual card slots (if that floats your boat), better LCD, faster burst rate.

You're getting 80% of the 1DX for at least grand and a half less if you shop around, so I don't see why the price is too high. The price will drop over time anyway as history shows.

better weather selaing because canon told you so? wait till we see proper user reviews to see how well this camera stands when its pouring down in rain.

Better in low light? proof? because many of the test samples shows that this camera is only "marginally" better in low light.

Also, tell me why is the d800 £400-£600 cheaper then this? the d800 has far more MP, only "slightly slower then the mk3" but has great AF , metering and low light features just like the mk3 but for a lot less money

You can buy a 7d and a 5dmk2 together rigth now cheaper then a single 5dmk3 and still have money left to book yourself a holiday somewhere abroad and take pics with your two bodies

^^^
Of course it's 'to high for them', even people who can afford it don't like to feel ripped off. Considering it is basically 5D mk2.5, or what the mkii should have been, it should only be around £2k imo, especially considering the competition...

+1. this is a 5dmk2.5. if i had a 5dmk2 i would feel more ripped off as all they are giving me and all 5dmk2 owners is a slightly faster camera and better AF system and for the price of two of my 5dmk2's?

Yea but it will sell loads and make them a lot of money. look at console game machines. they sell at a massive lost early on and gain loads of profit afterwards.

Plus buying FF sensors in bulk can reduce cost a lot.
