*****The Official Canon 5DMK3 Thread*****

They do, it's called the 5DII. I would imagine it's either too much of a compromise sticking an FF sensor in an **D body, it's not economically viable or they'd cannabalise sales of more profitable bodies and/or the 1 series. Likely a mix of all three.

But the 5dmk3 is suppose to replace it and at 3k? not very entry level friendly!

For now.. but during the wait you can pick-up a 5DI or mkII...
(maybe you should look for a cheap D700?)

canon dont make 5d1 anymore so it would be a second hand one that has probably been used and abused.

And When canon stop making a 5dmk2, we are then forced to spend near 3k mark for an entry level camera.

i dont really want a 5dmk2, especially at the current price point because of its AF system, but if it was below 1k, i may bite the bullet and live with it.

The thing is mate, i am after an all rounder that can do loads of things well.

if i was using nikon, i would have already bought a d700 no questions asked because that camera i have praised so highly over the 5dmk2 as it is THE CAMERA i want! great AF, great IQ and FF.

im basically after a camera that will last me 10+ years and the d700/d800 and 5dmk3 are the top contenders for me.

My mum owns this

As you can see, thats easily 20+ years old and still going strong. incidently, the build quality of that compared to todays DSLR is nigth and day. how come they dont make camera bodies like that anymore instead of using cheap plastic?

Don't expect 5Diii pricing to remain so high if the below amazon figures are any real indication of popularity.

Yea i dont think many hobbiest will buy a 5dmk3. 3k for body alone? i expect a L lens to be included for that price.

Dont forget, Glass > Body.

if a hobbiest had £3k spare change, that person would probably buy L lens instead, two infact and use the rest to go on holiday and use it on their current body.

Looks like people are going to be happy in both camps, although I'm not seeing why I need to pay an extra £600 for the Canon!..

Personally I like (and understand) the Canon lens lineup better, ultimately I'd like to have the 35L, 50L, 85L and 135L. I have to ask myself how realistic this would be though... but these lenses along with the 70-200 f2.8 and something longer will suit me for all I shoot. The 85L I would possibly actually go for the Sigma 85mm f1.4 due to the faster focussing. I already have a 100mm for macro stuff and a cheap wide and walk around zoom for the rare times that I use them. So I'm probably going to stick with Canon and see how prices sort themselves out through the year.

i would go for a 24L, 50L and 70-200L. best setup. no point getting a 135L if your gunna get a 70-200L especially f2.8 version. that lens is PRIME quality no joke mate.

And yes, 5dmk3 is £600 expensive. £2400 max. i hope it goes down to £2k end of the year.

I use my 70-200 IS mkI quite a lot, I could probably justify upgrading it to the mkII but whilst the mkII is sharper it's not going to make a great deal of difference to my photography. The 135L seems to be a special lens and I feel that I just need to get one to experience it, buying and selling second hand will probably just cost me the postage which would be cheaper than renting one!

70-200 is an amazing lens for real!

What type of stuff are you shooting these days? are you still shooting sports?

The thing is, he may not be shooting sports now but he may do tomorrow. u just never know whats gunna happen tomorrow. This is why i try to buy something where there is a chance i may use one of its other features in the future.

Yea but aint we talking about camera bodies not lens? You can buy and carry multiple lenses at your arsenal but not many carry multiple bodies which can cost more then some of the L lenses.

What i am saying is that the 5dmk3 is the BEST all round camera from canon that can do Still shots and fast moving objects whilst maintaining FF godness IQ/ISO/DOF.

You may not be shooting fast moving subjects but tomorrow you might do and if u get the 5dmk3, you can already shoot at your peral. Fast moving subjects are not always about sports.

What if your in a party and trying to track and take pictures of children running around?

What about in a wedding with kids running around? Quite a few examples of fast moving subjects that are not in teh sports catagory mate.

Spot metering recompose is different to focus recompose when you use back button focus. I can lock metering with a half press on the shutter button and carry on focusing to my hearts content using the back button. When all is how I want it I hit the shutter button all the way and bob's your uncle, fanny's your aunt and all that malarky :)

well said. was about to post that

Hi all.

just a heads up. 5d3 is going down in price now

http://camerapricebuster.com/Canon_EOS_5D_Mark_III_Body_pc.html

fantastic news. If you get it from a Hong Kong dealer like Digitel Rev, you can get it for 2.2k.

Come xmas this may go down to 2.6-2.5k and thats when i will bite the bullet :)

i may even bite the bullet sooner if i decide to buy from digital rev.

This is my next camera. no if's or buts. this is THE CAMERA i have dreamed of having that past models like teh 7d and 5d2 just did not cut it for me as i wanted a camera thats a 7d+ 5d2 rollled into one for versatility and longetivity.

once i do get this camera i dont think will upgrade for 10+ years easily unless Mirrorless tech kicks off big time before then or the 5dmk10 has Eye assisted AF(done before in older slr camera's), 20fps or ISO 512000 that is as clean as the 5d3's ISO 100.
