The 970 is not comparable to SD 845, maybe SD 835. And the Mali GPU sucks compared to the Adreno in Snapdragon
 
Just bought an Xioami 5A for the gf's mum, seems a great deal at £68! Looking forward to getting it and seeing how it performs. She's upgrading from some very very old Samsung of some kind, which can barely send a text.

I'm hesitating between that and a Redmi 4X for my wife.

im on three network as well
 
It will work on 3 and EE on 4G without band 20 anyway, as you bought the global version you should get updates not problem at all, unless the seller has put a strange rom on it, but that really does not happen anymore.
 
What is the closest equivalent to the Samsung Note 8? Girlfriend has her eye on the Note 8 which is a surprise as she's always been anti-android but I'm wanting to see what rival phones Xiaomi have around same spec.

Probably the Mi Mix 2/2s
 
I would recommend waiting until the end of the month and get the Redmi Note 5 as it has the newer Snapdragon 636 processors and Adreno 509.

The 5 Plus has the old 625 and 506 combo.

I feel this is often the issue though. Anti Android people give it a go, on a chinese knock off type and so don't get a great experience and use it to justify Andriod to be inferior.

I'm not saying it's always going to happen, but my worst experiences on Android have been on cheap Chinese phones...
 
Not fully up to date here, is the Redmi Note 5 not out yet?

Looking to get something for a family member. Have a Redmi note 4 in the family that is liked, so was hoping for a new version.

I have a MiA1 which I like where do the 5a's fit into the lineup, or how do they compare to the Note?
 
I know I'm late to the game with regards to the redmi note 4 but it arrived on wednesday and I'm blown away by it! Much nicer than the note 2 and the battery is superb in comparison!

So much phone for €114 - my wife wants one now, even though she was convinced 5.5" was too big :p

I think it officially is, but the suppliers I use to buy from (Xiaomi Online Store and MC Store on Alibaba) iwll have stock o the global version from around 24th April, it's available for pre order.
