Funny enough i've just done the same thing patched to 1.2 and going to give it ago.
If the problem persists perhaps we can all post on a thread in the official forums regarding this issue.
Plant that seed of doubt into people's minds that a windows update has caused consistent lock-ups and crashes. Before you know it a flood of posts will come flooding in then they will have to sort the problem.
 
Yep i am patched to 1.2 too, and no, i dont use Starforce so that cant be the problem either.

I did wonder if it was just a randomly corrupt file or three but as a few of us have had this prob i am now having my doubts..... :rolleyes:

It still slows down when loading a race, just before its finished it drops to about 10-15 fps and then goes back up to 100+ then goes to the race as normal. other than that i have never had a problem with the game, Runs well.
 
I will reinstall tinight, what did you do with your saved profile? Can you copy it somewhere else and just paste it back in? Where is it? I should be able to find it easily but I am work...
 
Its in your docs and settings/all users/shared docs by default. That is unless you changed it when you first installed the game. :)

I backed up mine before i uninstalled, but didn't need it as it askes if you want to keep them. and i didn't need to do anything. Just played the game as normal. :)
 
Had the same corruption issue and had to uninstall/reinstall but choosing not to remove saved games and following that, reinstalling patches, everything works fine now
 
I thought that with four of us having the same problem and you all being fixed by a reinstall that my problem was also going to be fixed. It is not! Unitstalled, reinstalled and repatched and still have the same problem!

Except this time it is worse! Now it sometimes manages to load the track and you can even start to drive before it crashes. Seriously annoyed!!

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Apart from crashing the other night and now every time the game ran flawlessly for me. :(
 
Sorry to hear that mate, i've just been playing for about an hour and a half with no crashing. Just out of interest, have you got starforce installed?

You need starforce installed to play this game....

Yep, just a plain install straight out of the tin. I just can't understand why it was working fine and then it wasn't.

Maybe I should try to roll back Windows? Never done that thing with XP, anyone think it could help?
 
Had the same problem earlier. After reinstalling the game it was still crashing in the menu when loading the races.
I went into the X:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DiRT\hardwaresettings folder & renamed "hardware_settings_config.xml". This resets the audio & video settings to default. Started the game back up, re-applied my audio & video settings & it has been fine since. Played for 2 hours with no problems.

Might be worth a try.

My girlfriend got me this game the other day (score!). PLayed for a couple of hours this morning. Lot of fun, but pretty hard with a keyboard. I need to get out a 360 controller for this I think.

well ive now given up on this game theres so many probs its bs.never remembers my control pad settings,also i wouldnt even play this game on less than a 1900xtx or above as it just owns it.
 
I'm getting 25-28 FPS on Dirt on ultra settings & 4x multisampling on 1680x1050, although this sounds low the game seems very smooth.

I'm running it on a E6400 @ 3.2Ghz with 2GB of ram and a 8800GTS 640MB with the 163.44 drivers, I was just wondering if this FPS sounds alright for this spec or is something wrong?
 
Was running fine with 1.1 patch with ultra settings. Now I have installed 1.2 I get into a buggy race and the game goes down to about 1 frame every 10 seconds. Then crashes.
