EDIT - It seems my retailer queued me at 28 in line, and are getting only 27 for their midnight opening (they come in boxes of three) I'm first in line for the second batch, which is apparently coming thursday/friday, so I may still get one for launch. Anyway -
It's Coming!...

Friday 8th December 2006:-

The Nintendo Wii Launches in the UK.

\o/ \o/ \o/ \o/

Hopefully this thread will serve as a nice guide to the Wii launch, which is one week away as of midnight tonight. Having only just found out that I will be getting one on launch day, and at a midnight opening, I'm excited enough to make this thread :D

What are you most looking forward to about the Wii? What is the first game you are going to play? Have you already tried out a Wii remote? When are you getting yours? What are you going to do whilst you wait for the courier on 8th?

Let's have a friendly discussion, and get ready for the Wii.

Note: Please keep this friendly, lets keep the bleedin' fanboy arguments etc out of this thread. The 360 and PS3 are fine with me, so I ask that you keep your derailing comments for other discussions. Also, please be careful not to name competitors - I know its easily done, but lets not get the thread deleted either.

As for me..

Well, I'll be getting mine at 00:00 on the 8th at a local retailer, I intend to also get Zelda: TP and Wii Play, because its a no brainer really. If I'm feeling flush enough I may also get Red Steel.

I'm going to come home, and give Wii sports a bash, plus probably post some stuff here for you guys :)

I've had a crack at Wii Tennis in Bluewater the other week, and I had a great time. So much fun. The Wii remote feels perfect, although I haven't used a nunchuck.

I'm going to go to the pub first though :D

2 player boxing, had a quick go before and looking forward to some more, hopefully I'll enjoy my brothers wii so much I have to get my own,

i had a go on one at the good food show at the weekend. i have to say that they've made the controls a lot more responsive than i thought they would. it's really intuitive! i played Zelda and WarioWare and i was very impressed with both. only got to go fishing on zelda, but i got to use the nunchuck. i didn't realise there was motion sensors in that too!

as for when i'm getting one...when i get a new job. if i'm employed before the end of december, i'll have money left over from my old job, so it'll go towards a new laptop and a Wii. so...fingers crossed...ASAP.

Well I have mine coming on launch day from an online store and just got an email saying they've reduced the price of my bundle of Wii and Red Steel, it was £219.99, it's now dropped massivly to £219.98  What an incredible saving

and Zelda is a first gen title (that had the controls added at a late date) :)

I'm really looking forward to Metroid Prime 3:)

This is the first time i've really been excited about a new games console, normally i'm fairly "meh" about them (it took me ages to get a GC, which was for Zelda, and the DS).

More info on what?

Not to rain on the thread, but what's to really discuss in the thread beyond "OMG I CANT WAIT FOR THE WII :D", and eventually "OMG MY WII IS HERE IT ROX :D". Maybe it'll tank horribly and we'll have something to talk about, but I can't see anyone who's getting on day one not know what they're letting themselves in for. I'd have thought we'd all know exactly when it's coming out, what's coming out for it, what games look good, and what's worth knowing. It's not like we haven't had thousands of posts about the Wii already.

I'm not trying to deliberately ruin the mood here (I've got one on pre-order myself, and I'm worringly excited about it), but I just fear we'll get twenty pages of people telling us about how they're unpacking their Wiis "RIGHT NOW OMG", and very little discussion on what they actually like/dislike about it.

I'll be happy if I'm proven wrong though.

EDIT: Ah well, I guess I got instantly proven wrong then, so sod it.

I scrapped Red Steel from my pre-order because, according to a lot of reviews, it's a big pile of rubbish wrapped into an strange control system. Shame really, as both that and CoD have fairly average review scores (no multiplayer in CoD! Terrible call), so it's depressing not to see the top-class FPS game the Wii would excel at come out on launch. I just went for the safe bet of Zelda instead ;). Rayman is apparently pretty good though, IGN reckon it's the got the kind of WarioWare mini-game bizarreness that should appeal to me and my housemates, so I might go for that.

I've got mine coming on the 8th I'm not sure if I will actually be playing on it though as my gf wants to pay for it now and give me it for christmas, which I kind of like the idea of as its been a while seen I've had that new console feeling on christmas day :) Also gives me a slim chance of actually picking up a component cable aswell though I'm not holding my breath.

Just getting Zelda with it atm may pick up Wii Play also though.

I don't know yet :p But I thought it'd be handy.

Besides, not everyone is getting one at launch, not everyone is getting every title etc. Plus I thought i'd try and hype people up just a bit more and get people in the launch mood :D

have you seen anything of the pending DS Zelda? looks pretty cool with the cel-shaded, Windwaker-esque graphics

I've got mine on pre-order at work. Should have it for launch, if not i'll be VERY annoyed! Working on the Thursday night anyway so i'll just try and make sure i sneak one for me and my bro! Just getting Zelda with mine.

well I'll be getting mine with:

Zelda TP
Wii play
Super monkey ball
nunchuck
classic controller
1G memory card
I'll be getting it on (or just before ;) ) luanch cant wait I'll be playing zelda the most I reckon :)

getting on launch day (or perhaps the day before depending on when stock comes in) the wii + wiiplay + zelda - BUT wont be playing on it until christmas eve (my birthday) :(

fini

got mine confermed as coming on launch day and I cant wait. I love getting new gadgets.
Bought zelda and rampage total destruction for it might pick up a extra controller for some multiplayer boxing on wii sports. Was telling my mate last night I`ll kick his butt on boxing and I might just get a few punches on him out of the game just by "accedent" :D

preordered aswell but think i'm spending way to much !!

Wii
Zelda
Monkey Ball
Red Steel
Wii Play
Nunchuk
Component lead

and that's just on the Friday ! :D

You plug it in? That sounds a bit cumbersome. where does it attach and how?

As for battery life, that's usually one of Nintendo's strong points. The original DS probably has the worst battery life out of any of their handhelds at a "terrible" 12 hours or so of life, and the Wavebird lasts absolutely ages on a single pair of AAs. I believe the tilt sensing components are non-electrical too, so that shouldn't be draining much.

Plugs into the bottom I think - battery life is reported to be around 20 hours (with decent batteries) so not exactly getting a huge amount of time with them - recharge kit seems to be the way to go.

I got comformation on my pre-order today.

Although they do say that it will be despatched upto 5 days after launch

Still, better late than never
