The Official 'Countdown to Wii' Thread!

Hi,

recieved my letter today from said sister company of the purple shirt brigade and I will not be getting one for launch :( What a major mess up that company has had. If i was in charge heads would be rolling. I called the store earlier today and they hadnt had a single Wii delivered and it launches tomorrow. This is the main store in the high street of a major Uk town!!!! Note to self never shop at that store again.

Oh well i just phoned my local supermarket and they have had a lot delivered :) But the guy on the phone said they have not decided if they will be sold at midnight tonight or 6 am tomorow morning?? Despite a radio advert saying they will be on sale at midnight. Needless to say i will be there before midnight with a megaphone and no matter what they say they will give me one lol

Cheers,
Hugest

I wonder if this means that the related companies to the one that you referred to are also going to have zero stock.

I might auction my spare copy of monopoly (the physical boardgame) I reckon it must be worth a fortune now lol.

Prosthetic limbs are hardly in the same league as an entertainment console.
One helps you live the other kills time.
One is very necessary the other really isn't at all necessary.

For me, its all down to morals
Some people can do both of my examples with no problems.
Me, I cant do neither.

How is denying a child a prosthetic limb that would allow him or her to walk again in any way the same as some spoilt brat getting the latest console to add to the pile of dust gathering consoles it already owns?

In both examples, your making money, I never said they were both in the same league. Supply and demand, he's not denying any1 buying limbs/consoles, he's just charging them more.

Think its obvious that my prosthetic limb example is a bit OTT. ;)

LMAO how can you compare the importance of a games console for a spoiled brat to a prosthetic limb for a land mine victim? :D

I like picking extremes ;)

Little edit, I seem to be dragging this thread off track, so Im going to do the decent thing and shut up about ebay :p
Good luck to every1 buying or selling.

You don't say!

Personally I feel that it'll do some kids a power of good NOT to get everything damn thing that they demand.

I have no issues with people buying something to sell at a profit unless they are using some sort of insider trading or unfair advantage over others.

As I see it everyone had identical opportunities to purchase a Wii and of they really wanted one then they should have pre-ordered in October. It is not as though it cost money or took time to do this.

Afaik Nintendo are also suggesting that there will be further deliveries in time for Xmas so even those who do not get a launch one ought on the whole to be OK if it is for a Xmas present.

If people can afford to pay £400 for a console then why not. If people think far enough ahead to anticipate an opportunity to make money on the back of some people being more prepared to pay over the odds than to bother pre-ordering then why not.

Whining about it is simply sour grapes, suggesting it is greed and that greed is unappropriate at Xmas when it is simply greed fuelling demand for this at Xmas is rather ironic is it not.

I ordered a Wii from a local well-known catalogue company on-line about a week ago as it stated they had some in stock. After it had taken my card details the 'receipt' page notified me that they were out of stock :( but they would email me once they had new stock.
Literally 10 minutes later I received an email stating they had new stock, so I followed the link, inputted my card details again, only to be told again they were out of stock.

Needless to say I was most annoyed, but today I received two letters from the company saying 'As you have spent over £100 you're entitled to a £10 voucher'. So although I didn't get a Wii (no money has come out of my account) at least I get £20 of vouchers due to their ineptitude.

What about if a child - whose parents were both killed during a civil war when their house was burnt to the ground - needed a prosthetic limb because on the day of his parent's funeral, he was walking to the local church and accidentally stepped on a landmine and had part of his leg blown off as a result. The Wiimote is exactly the right proportions to replace the part of his leg that is not there any more, so he decides to save up as much money as he can, to not eat, buy clothes or use electricity, just so that he is able to afford one.

Imagine how gutted that child will be when he realises that he can't pop down to his local high street retailer to buy a Wiimote for the equivalent of £30 because someone from the opposing tribe had bought up all the stock and was flogging them on an auction site for £10,000 a piece!

That poor boy can no longer walk because he can't afford to pay the exhorbitant prices the Wiimotes are now going for.

Oh, the tragedy. Even Bob Geldof couldn't help out on this one. :(

However he would not be able to walk to the shops to get the wiimote because he's a leg short of jogging.
So his only recourse would be to carve a stick into a flexible ankle joint and makes his own leg.
Alternatively prosthetics would be rock bottom price as the other tribe had spent all of its cash on nintendo consoles hence the sudden drop in demand for false legs would cause a false leg price crash meaning the boy could infact simply buy a leg for now and probably a spare one for when the other leg went boom.

Ahhh tragedy I phoned such and such and they told me I won't get one on the 8th dam it I preordered it back in october for flaming goodness sake.

They did say they would be getting a fresh batch in shortly after the 8th and they'll contacted me to let me know. Grr Now I'm extremely depressed. I was so hyped about friday.

Was this an online purchase or from a high street retailer?

Oh my. About a month ago, I pre-ordered a Wii from a well-known high street store and promptly cancelled it after the US launch due to lukewarm games' reviews.

Last night I get an answer phone message from retailer saying "your parcel will be delivered tomorrow from 8am to 6pm". Wonder if I will have an unwanted Wii on my doorstep on Friday.

That wouldnt happen to be for a purple shirt store or a sister store of it? I put mine to the front also, and we are getting a measly 3 systems in, im working later on today so im going to have strong words, its not on at all.
It would be a sister store yes, the same one hugest is talking about probably.

The news for those with orders in with said company:

Stock throughout the chain is ridiculous (400 odd stores have 1700 consoles)

Purple shirt store has effectively nabbed all of the sister's stores stock due to their own mess ups.

The store I work at has a grand total of 2 consoles and if we're lucky we'll get in another 5 before christmas

Kingston has none in at all.

CDJ they're sending out letters to people as they come in stock based on when the pre-order was placed so unless you placed your order first you can't jump the queue. I was planning to do the same, but because they're sending out letters you can't say that the stock never came in because they'll have a letter saying that it's in stock at your store right now. Why they had to change the system for the wii launch I don't know - bah humbug!
