Got my copy this morning, loving it so far, it feels very....different to Demon and Dark souls, its quite refreshing. Beat the first boss so far, took me a few tries as he's a bit awkward to fight (he telegraphs his attacks but he's quite tall and said telegraphs are often not on screen).
There are several additions I don't like, the weapon degradation rate is disgusting as is the price of repairs, the fact you lose health the more you die without using an effigy is flat out insulting, failure is punishment enough, adding the health loss mechanic is an incredibly petty way to increase difficulty/force effigy use.
The only combat issue I've come across so far is the inconstancy of animations, I find that often I can roll cancel attack animations but other times it flat out doesn't work, leaving me to get cut to ribbons.
So far, really enjoying the game but I'm concerned with the way they seem to have tried to "one up" themselves on difficulty, it just feels a bit artificial. Oh and the frame rate can be a bit iffy.
Also the game seems to be a flat graphical downgrade from the first game which is slightly strange.
Sorry dude, playing it on 360 so can't help I'm afraid.Hey Davey, is there any chance you could try DS2 with a PS4 controller assuming you have it on PS3? I'm without a PS3 controller right now and something about the controls feels really wrong when using a PS4 controller. I'm really hoping it's different because I'm really not getting on with them at the minute.

No problem, borrowed a mates controller and it's exactly the same. So tempted to sell it on and wait for the PC release.
I may be wrong but i think resting at bonfires fixes weapons too?Well, I was up until three am playing, that's my endorsement right there! Feels just like it should to me too, the dodgy hit boxes has been a feature of all three games, nothing new there.
I also disagree strongly about it being a graphical downgrade, it just has a distinctly different look to it.
There are certainly things I do not like, such as the inability to repair a weapon until it has broken, what on earth is that all about? Possibly I have yet to find the correct blacksmith...
However, either I've gotten quite used to the series or it is significantly easier than the previous games, in some five hours of playing I've only died twice, one of those caused by my impatience and easily avoidable. It was a shock to get to a new fire so easily after the brutal education I had trying to get through that first section of the undead burg in ds1.

It indeed does.
