do all games have to be grey and gritty then? i dont see people complaining that mario galaxies doesn't look realistic enough, or that little big planet has too little greyness.

Several of the game sites have commented that it was nice to see something bright and fresh in Halo 3 when the bulk of shooters at E3 were grey and brown washed ala killzone 2. Another report that I saw said Halo 3 single player had some very subtle lighting that made it feel more real.

Overall your comment sounds like WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH

I'll take the vibrant colors of Halo 3 over generic grey/brown any day.

Grey and brown color palettes does not equal 'atmosphere' or 'gritty'. Those terms have been bandied about way too much now to even have any meaning or significance, it's been trivialized. It's part of the generic FPS formula, instead of a 'special' theme.

Halo 1 and 2 is far better than Killzone 1 anyway, so nyah.

At the moment we have only seen part of 1 level of killzone 2, cant compare a 1 level demo of a pre alpha game to a released one. Anyway gears isnt a fps so two different game styles. Halo 3 looks good but how does anyone know (apart from game developers) what else killzone 2 has to offer, its still at least 6 months away from release.

Nah, they are waiting for halo 3 then they will nick stuff from it!

imo they had to delay it because they know their own limits and they know it would be overshadowed by well established shooters like Halo, Unreal and half life which are comming out this year.

On the trailer where he shoots the cannon thing, did that gun not remind anyone of Resistance? The main rifle in it, seems similar to me :o

I think Killzone just seems naff, the actual gameplay in the video seemed y'know naff like the first.

That said I wasn't holding much hope for it, I just wish they didn't AGAIN hype it up so bad when the first was awful, the sequel deserved no hype.

Some magazine will label it a Halo killer then it will get bad reviews and bam it's Killzone 1 all over again.

What I fail to understand if how can Killzone 2 'kill' Halo 3? Halo 3 is going to sell in the millions regardless of whether Killzone 2 is released or not and lots of people will still be playing Halo 3 in 2-3 years just like with Halo 2. Then there is the problem of them being on rival formats aswell.

on a side note, was anyone else really unimpressed by the game demos available this E3 on XBL, im sure last years line up was far more impressive.

Only 2 biggish titles really, Ace combat and blue dragon. was hoping for a lot more

Half life 2 is comming out in October anyway and that is the fps to end all fps's.
I always felt when Half-Life 2 was released that it was more of a showcase for physics than a real attempt to come up with an awesome game worthy of being a sequel to Half Life (1).

The problem I have is that if you removed all the physics from Half-Life 2, you are then left with what is actually quite a poor FPS. The story isn't great, the environments are quite poor (bar the prison), and whilst it was graphically quite stunning when it came out, there are superior games now visually.

I will definitely be buying it, if only for Team Fortress 2, but I'm not expected to be blown away by the rest of the Single Player campaign (though I hope to be pleasantly surprised).

How does anyone else, bar games developers, know what Halo 3 has to offer?

Last year was different, it was the announcement of the first line of Next-Gen programmed titles, so there was a much larger and public show. Now that e3 is more private I'd be thinking you'll be seeing a lot less in the future years.

I find that pretty gutting as last year it felt like MS had really gone the distance to make E3 a next-gen experience for 360 owners by giving us access to so many demos and videos... this year I got pretty much the same service from my IGN account.

Last year they had all the backstage footage and interviews etc.. one for every day, interviews with developers on the stands etc...

Microsoft would have still done it if e3 was the same as it was last year, unfortunately there wasn't a whole lot Microsoft (or Sony) could do in comparison to last year.

I'm actually very underwhelmed with that. The low resolution of almost all the textures is nothing short of a joke. There are no sharpness in those visuals :(.
