***The Official E4300 Overclocking Thread***

Then drop the memory and speed of the cpu well below their rated speeds, and try overclocking the FSB / motherboard speed...
Thanks for advice chaps. No progress. Stupid question, presumbly I drop the CPU speed by decreasing its multiplier. This doesn't seem to register in CPU-Z etc. - still playing.

The Tuniq hardly gets warm even (even the base) with vCore at 1.55. Max CPU I've seen is 36C does this sound normal? Would an incorrectly positioned/fitted h/s give my problem symptoms?

Clearing CMOS (with many cups of tea :-) hasn't changed anything either.

What about active cooling on the northbridge by positioning a fan to blow on it?
Put a small fan on top of it. Questions about temps.
1. max CPU temp I've seen is 33C with OCCT and 1.55vCore. Is this normal? My Tuniq seems very cool, even the base. Just wondering if I've not fit it correctly.
2. MB temp. Is this the NB? (MB is P5B-E-SLI). Max temp is 40C.

Still maxing out at 1050QSB stable.
Won't post at 1100.
Runs OCCT for 20mins before freezing at 1140.
EDIT: **** Runs OCCT Stable! at 1129-1133 **** Wow - where did this hole come from?

33C max temp can't be right. 33C idle is normal though if that's what you meant, even at 1.55v. Load temps are what matter though. As for the MB temp, i'm not quite sure, although I would guess 40C is your temps inside your case, not your NB. As for FSB holes unfortunately, you have to live with them.

Whats the highest reasonable temp on stock cooling?
Reasonble, well it depends. Some people don't want to go over 60C, some people will go a bit further and say 70C max (including myself) and some people will even do 80C max, but that's the max, max if you get me. :D

Thanks for your reply. Max CPU temp under load (OCCT) is 33C. I thought this sounded very low (and I'm only getting 2.5GHz). If the H/S wasn't seated properly could this be the result ?

What are you using to measure your temps? It sounds like an old version of Coretemp (0.94). The new version (0.95) is spot on as is INTEL TAT.
LOL! I just tried coretemp 0.95 and it's reading my GPU temps. It goes up and down with ATi Tray Tools readings, so I think i'll stick with 0.94 for now. :D

Why bother its not reading the temps correctly?

You must be the only person in the universe who owns an e4300 and can't get Coretemp to read the right temps?
Why bother? 0.94 is reading the temps correctly, as it's reading the same as Speedfan 4.32. 0.95 is reading the same as my GPU temps, so yeah, MAYBE i am the only person. Pfft. :D

Furthermore, 0.95 reset my PC. I thought I was unstable, but I just tried 0.95 again and my computer instantly restarted. Looks like i'm not the ONLY one! ;)

"samething here see sig for hardware E4300 system. i was doing 2 FAH clients then downloaded .95 ran it, it just shutdown my rig. thought it was not enough juice for 2.4ghz mild oc which was stable for 16hrs+ in orthos. didnt run FAH just tried to start .95 same thing just shutsdown my rig. thought it was cause the bios does not have the micro code to ID the cpu on bootup."

"With the old program .94 i didn't had ne problems but with the .95 everytime i try to start it, it would restart my computer. And this time i told it not to restart but rather give me the error screen and this is what I get."

"Really, I think CoreTemp was the problem. I ran it alone right after Xp restart and it would reboot the computer.

"I freaked out for a moment because like I said it's a new build setup and I thought the memory or the board was problematic. Glad that I found this thread, this confirm CoreTemp is doing something crazy not only to me to make the computer reboot like this."

"can we just brig back the link for 0.94? i had no problems with it"

http://www.alcpu.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=923&sid=f3c60b91b9775bdacb6cc14f8ae360fe

So yeah, as aforementioned, sticking with 0.94 here. :D

Ah ha, figured it out. Turned off Speedfan and 0.95 doesn't reset my computer anymore. Only problem is it's still measuring my GPU temps, according to ATi Tray, not giving me an independant figure for my CPU. Unless of course my CPU and GPU are the same speed for a good five minutes. :D

I'm gonna stick with Speedfan anyway, it controls three of my fans too and it works in sync with 0.94, which also measures temps correctly, as the latest Speedfan fixes the issues from the previous Beta. No need for Core Temp in actual fact.

OK, I have a problem. For some reason, when I overclock I loose FPS???

eg:

Where in an app giving 280FPS average @ stock speeds. I get 100FPS @ 3.1 GHz.

The program used is the same graphic application as above in the 1st post. PCI-E is @ 100MHz, I am at 1.4v 9x335 on the CPU atm with a 2x multiplier on the RAM. Can anyone shed any light on the matter?

EDIT: its so strange. If a lower the CPU FSB to 9x250 it still gives the same issues. Only at 9x200 (1.8GHz) does the problem go away. Perhaps a software thing?

Strange problem here i have geil 1gb 2x512mb pc2 6400 ds3 3.3
e4300 currently at 3078 9x 343 fsb
now when i set to any multiplier other than 9x i get the default 1.86ghz speed
of the cpu like if i do 8x 400 i'll get 1.86ghz instead of 3.2 any ideas anyone?

ds3 as stated in post 8x multi doesnt work for me.
Just gives me 1806 mhz instead of 3200 with 8x 400.
