I seriously doubt u need a new PSU. I was running a 24pin mobo with a 20-pin PSU for a while. The 4-pin extra connector is standard the 8-pin power connector was reserved for server use, Id say that its backwards compatable and that the 4 extra connections are likely to just mirror the connections on the 4-pin. It wouldnt hurt to check your mobo manual and PSU manual to check that the 4-pin PSU cable matches the pin layout of the half of the 8-pin socket on mobo that u use.

It does...just wan't to be sure thats all. Dont wanna damage my new rig...

Yes it is fine to just plug in 4 pins but i'd look at manual first to see which 4 pins to plug into.

Most mobo have 4 of the 8 pins covered by default so you can either plug 4 pins or remove the cover and plug in 8 pins.

Ghetto is all very admirable, but isn't ghetto about doing it right on an impossibly small budget?
Lol ofcourse not, it means exactly what I stated it to mean, using a bendy bit of wire instead of trying to fit a zalman fan bracket.
If my computer generates heat and it's air cooled then is putting it in an enclosed space a good idea?
Well ofcourse I have considered that putting it in a cupboard (which is infact a small room with 1 wall sloping away as the roof does) might not let it breath aswell as sitting next to an open window.

I used to have a watercooling radiator which was tubed to go out through my window but thats too extreme especially in cold weather. U could also call that ghetto. In fact ghetto has absolutely nothing to do with the price, lol.

imageshack just froze on me! any other suggestions?

couldn't get into windows at 3.4ghz on default. raised to 1.35...in windows now, just gonna run super pi 1m. Do bear in mind this wasn't a fresh install...i just swapped mobos and cpu (from 939) and started up!

Oh and this is on the intel stock cooler...

You just put another board in and cpu and booted it up? It must love you for that :) Surely either the activation or drivers are throwing a wobbly! Wheres the SCREENSHOTS!!!! :D
