I only got this last week. I am debating whether to buy a vulture outright or trade my cobra in as well.

The only thing that is bothering me is the fact that if you have more than one ship, you have to trek back to the station you swapped ships at to swap over.

Be good if you could pay the AI to fly your ships from station to station to avoid this.
Obviously they wouldn't fly it out, it would just be a delivery charge and it would appear iat your current station after the appropriate one way travel time.

I personally don't see the reason to store a ship.

If you sell it (especially a Cobra as it is fairly cheap) it is only a 10% deduction on the hull price. I de-equip before selling the hull (equipment sells for the retail price) and there seem's to be most ships and most shipyard stations. (Vulture can be a bit of nightmare)

So I would do that. if you need to downgrade for cargo/exploration you can just buy a new ship and re equip.

Saves you having to search out modules again if you want to go back to it.

Yep that is true however you need to be able to afford to do that.

To store my Vulture in it's current load out would cost the best part of 23 million credits.

So in the early part of the game (as I am) reinvesting the money in ships is the best way for me...

When I have reached my goals as far as ships are concerned then I will defo store them.

Playable or hireable carrier type ships would be great but probably won't come. Mainly to use as a mobile base of operation and to store a ship or two of yours so you can switch on the fly.

Been sitting on the fence for a while, but starting to get tempted to give this a try...

How many UK pilots does Pagan have for Elite? (I presume Pagan is main OCUK group?)

Right so first time going hunting and following this guys advice.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7UjHLId2VI&list=FLtRStk5P83xBzU1s6CBAYeQ

It was a bit daunting because ive never had a proper fight apart from a one or two sidewinder interdictors that got to me and the tutorial. So using things like kill scanner for the first time was daunting and remembering how best to use the weapons and how and when to attack etc.

I think i did ok. Only got down to 98% hull but i think shields were always up so not sure how i got a bit of hull damage. So i went to a RES but i think i dropped in too early even tho the message said to disengage. I was about 80km away from the site so no wonder i didnt see any ships near me. So i go and get closer.

So i go over and and notice a few asps and adders. I dunno what i should or shouldnt go for yet as i dunno how big compared to me asps or adders or others than me. Anyhow so i hunt for a bit i find some police a few cobras etc. I follow em a bit and then i notice a few fights in the background so i boost over. Most of them were either eagles, sides or 1 viper or vulture i think it was a viper tho. I got a few kills myself instead of waiting till their ships were low tho if it looked a big ship i would have waited to get the last shot in hehe. But smaller ships i knew were smaller than me i thought yeah go have some fun. :)

Best bounty i got was 37k i think from the viper. Used the kill scanner, damn its slow and hard to keep on target when near the ship and its in a fight. So im gona try do it at 1km range (mine is a 3k range scanner).

In the end i got 76k. Which was nice but for the hour i think i put in it wasnt a lot of reward for time. I hoped it could have been 100k or more per 10-15mins. :(

Maybe i just got unlucky with the RSE.

Still. Im stoked i did ok for my first try. Im more of a play it safe but as i said awhile back i wanted to be bold and try somit new for a change with a bit of excitement.

Any tips for me do you reckon for a RSE and how to get good bounties or do i just do what i did and hope some bigger ships spawn in instead of smaller ships.

Don't bother with the KWS for anything smaller than an Asp when it comes to RES, in my opinion. You waste so much time and it's rarely ever worth it as far as I can see. The higher the skill of the pilot, generally, the higher the bounty. I've had some impressive (50-60k) bounties on Elite Vipers and then scored the same on a Mostly Harmless Clipper.

76k for an hour is very low. If you're finding that there aren't many targets spawning, and there are no other CMDRs in the instance, then jumping out and back in can help; otherwise, pick another RES in the system and try your luck there. I always find it's good to pick systems with two or three ringed planets which have a set of RESs around them. It means you can switch between them if you're not getting many bounties, or if you lose sunlight etc.

One thing you can do is try to lure the pirates to you. Stick some low value cargo in your hold and you'll tend to get more of them coming to you instead of going for the mining ships. Just be prepared to drop it if something comes along that you can't handle, then boost out of the way. :)

Forget RES, go to Nav Beacons, I get far, far more action and bounties at these than any RES and you won't wreck your ship boosting into stupid rocks all the time.

Cheers.

Just popped back on for a bit after checking somit i found that rogoeys power module priority info is flawed that someone linked me to awhile back. It is NOT 1 lowest and 5 the highest so put things u want higher than 1. It is fact the reverse where 1 is the best and 5 is the lowest (worst) so had to go back ingame just for that mainly but then i thought id give RES another go.

Did a lot better this time. Sure it was a little slow at first for about 5-10 mins but then a anaconda showed up then i think another one i cant remember and then a clipper. Got about 320k from em. :) Dont think i was playing more than about 30-40 mins so better than before. Plus i got right stuck in. I noticed that the cops had trouble getting the anaconders shields down past the last ring and was sick of waiting and hoping i could do some damage and i could. ;) So i helped out and got the shields down and did pretty well vs the hull i think. It fired on me quite a bit but my shields held. Oh i added a shield enhancer thing and a hull enhancer thing on my cmk3. Anyhow so yeah i didnt do to bad vs a anaconda. Tough ship it was but i managed. The cops did help but i dunno i think i did more dmg than they did tho i cant say for sure that was the case but it "felt" like it due to some good attack runs on it and it was firing at me so i guess i was the largest threat to it at the time.

Its nice combat but it takes awhile to get going and when u finally get into the fighting after about 2-3 ships i felt tired and just wanted to dock and quit. Is it just me or is it the game being repetitive with combat and is it the time it takes to get it done a factor or do you think its normal.

I have been playing for a few months now, but the thing I really really like about this game is how the 'playability' is so faithful to the original. It is probably almost 30 years since I sat as a kid playing the original elite, but when I started this docking, fighting etc was all just second nature, like riding a bike so to speak.

I also agree that DB and the team are doing a great job in listening to feedback and building positively on it. You can't please all the people all the time but they are doing a good job of taking a well established basic platform and potentially building it into something which could be great and have real longevity.

Doesn't help newbies I'm afraid, just practice and get a stick to fly...

I could be wrong but OCUK has its own group as well, anyway we have around 20 players but not all active ATM you will typically see on TS around 4 to 8 players at peak times although this can drop to nothing depending on Elites current state. Its been extremely popular recently since last update (wings) but its a game you keep coming back to can see player base dropping soon as everyone will be playing GTA5 but everyone will return for next DLC which is due soonish.

Does anyone know if next game update a freebie or is it the start of payable DLC doesn't affect me as was sad enough to buy open Beta 1 which gives all DLC free.

bought this today and still getting to grips, and advice for a newbie.

For me.... and everybody has a different strategy, so advice will be different

Find a high tech station, base yourself there.

Do as many missions as you can but not bounties until you have a better equipped ship.

I was based at Cleve Hub in Eravate system.

find a route that can make you some money on small cargo selling.

My making money route was Cleve hub > Ackerman Market (Crop harvesters) Then Ackerman Market > Kini (meat/food etc) then Kini to Cleve hub titanium then silver... you will need some money to buy these but the return can be quite good, so start small and work your way up.

At each station check the bulletin board and do jobs.

I then put all my money back into my ship. Power plant, power distribution, shields, weapons, thrusters cargo holds...

Once my ship is at the stage where you can go bounty hunting, go to a nav beacon or a Resource extraction site and help out with bounties. (security services will attack wanted ships) I was lurking near any ships attacked and hit them when their shields were low and got bounties that I perhaps would not achieved on my own.

Make sure the ship is scanned by you and be careful with your hits. dont hit the security services!!

From there you can make money to then go on and get a better shup and choose your path, Bounty hunter, exploration, cargo.

I have about 200 hours now. I have assets of about 32 million (22 in my ship) I am still bounty hunting as I find that the most exciting. I will disapere off across the universe soon. There is much to see!

Have Fun!

Anyone struggling to get up the ranks for the Empire? Seems to be taking forever! Grinded to have enough for the Clipper and now all I need is the rank :D

Took me about a week. The easiest way was to go to an empire system and bounty hunt in the local Res to get rep up while earning cash (you will need a lot to upgrade it), and do the odd rep mission. After that is just random as to when the naval missions appear. It only took a day to get to allied. After that it was about one or two naval missions per day if I was very lucky

It came as a surprise to realise I could afford to buy an ASP (been working on getting some extra money and didn't realise I'd made enough) While I have 12MCr in the bank and a fully tripped out Cobra, should I get more money before moving over to the Asp (I intend to sell the Cobra)? Or do I have enough to get one and equip it now?

I just sold my tricked out asp for a vulcan, then realised that I never kept enough to upgrade it, oops. Having to make do with small pulse lasers until I can make some more money

My friend was in a python and couldn't afford the rebuy cost, he went into a RES to make some money but had his canopy blown out.
He would have made it but my friend Devrij told him to stop and use the repair module, while I was screaming at him that it doesn't work on glass.

Anyway he blew up right beside the letter box of the station LOL.
