In the case of all those Mass Effect, Star Trek/Wars, BSG and Failfly fanbois it would only be a good thing if they didn't. The quote says the process will be continuing after this initial sort, though, so they'll probably get an e-mail saying "Sorry, some other lamer with no imagination got your chosen name, please choose another name from that SF show you watch obsessively instead of coming up with your own (e.g. the one your parents gave you)".
Sorry if I seem a bit ranty, BTW. It just bugs me that we were offered an option to personalise our games with our own name or preferred handle and a bunch of people immediately say "HURR, I WANT TO BE DARTH VADER LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!" This may sound slightly hypocritical coming from someone who uses a character name for his own handle, but I've used the name on a dozen or more different forums over the last 12 years and 99% of the Web couldn't even tell you where it came from without a Google search.
Whats wrong with that? I bet most of those 30 to 40 year olds are fans of Elite and/or Frontier.
I can STILL donate??! Oh my god... I'm doing it the second I get home. Now the only question is do I do £90 or £100. Not sure I would take part in the beta test, but it would be nice to leave the option open. Hmmm....

Full grown adults devoid of creativity picking an unoriginal name, I could understand youths maybe doing this, but I expected more from the kind of people that were backing this.
Oh that! I thought you meant is was bad they were backing the game in the first place.
Yeah those names are a tad predictable.

Personally, I'm busy biting my nails over the Commander name selection. I pledged about mid-way through, but I think the commander name I've chosen is reasonably obscure...
I'm having a little moan in the concept art thread because the signed print I would actually like (i have paid for 2) isn't even a choice in the poll. I really think we should be able to choose whichever piece of concept art we like rather than having them narrowed down to 4. Its entirely possible that I will have paid for 2 prints and not like any of the final 4 choices.
I can understand why this would frustrate you. What pledge level got the signed prints, or was it an additional reward?
You added an additional £35 per signed print onto the pledge level you had selected. The annoying thing is that now I have spent my additional £70 above my pledge level on prints I can't change my mind and have to select 2 of the 4 prints chosen by the private backers forum members. The print I actually wanted is not in the poll . Many of the members voting won't even have bought any of the prints but can still decide what I have to go for.

What they've said is that every week they'll create a new discussion thread about some game concept (this week is what happens when you die). There was a really good discussion about different aspects of what happens like you respawn at the last station, you lose your cargo etc. The only thing was because of the various consequences there was multiple discussions going on at the same time so you could lose track of things, after a couple of hours there was already a couple of hundred posts.
So somebody makes a new thread saying that to keep things clearer they should have broken it up into individual threads like, where do you respawn, what do you lose etc. then someone else jumped the gun and started creating individual threads and then it just became a free for all with people treating just like the general suggestions forum.
Can see them locking the forum down so ordinary members can't create threads in there.
