Yeh, seen and read all that already.

The only thing(s) of interest in there to me were "Structures, Other Phenomena, Beauty spots (usually attached to other entities)".

But it's all so vague it's hard to pin it down.

I just can't get to grips with how interesting flying around and "looking" is going to be for example. ie: Seen one star system seen them all? And how interesting the missions are going to be.

So I'm playing it safe I'm afraid. Don't want to feel the annoyance of playing it and thinking OMG this cost me 3x what it should have.

Anywhere, but if you attack someone in the core worlds the police will come after you on top of being flagged as a pirate and then you become fair game for bounty hunters as well.

The further out a system is the more profit you can get.
I've paid for explorer as i like going as far out as possible. So its more than just viewing things. Big prices to sell, chances of finding random stuff etc.

You are missing the point. For one many people are expecting an experience such that visiting system will be interesting in itself. You will see people keen to visit specific stars for example. Problem is there is not the slightest suggestion systems will have significant Astronomical vistas making visits worth while. It might just be most systems are pretty much all the same.

This could be worrying as exploring just to find more valuable rocks might get dull quick.

Now remember there is not a single picture or video or comment to really suggest otherwise.

There will be a vast amount of variety because of the procedural generation techniques used. And those don't include specific custom made systems as well.

Variety in what? Planet appearance? Surely what we are really talking about are rare interesting hand crafted things?

I can guarentee after a few planets you probably won't look at another?

So what will actually drive exploration other than more valuable rocks?

Now don't get me wrong I hope they are space an interesting and mysterious place with plenty of beauty and exploration to carry out. But I don't understand why they haven't shared this when it would have almost certainly have increased their kick starter uptake?

Procedural generation is absolutely necessary for the scope of this game, however I would also like to see lots of the "hand crafted" assets that Neil speaks of.

One example is the Earth Torus from X3:TC. You won't see unique structures like that in-game from procedural generation alone. It is possible they use a similar structure as a template for procedural generation but then they wouldn't be unique.

You can usually tell what was created by procedural generation and what was hand-crafted. Until that difference becomes less obvious and more obscure, procedural generation just won't have the same appeal.

I just hope there's plenty unique content dotted around.

Imagine a large asteroid somewhere with a crater leading into a tunnel. After finding this, you follow that tunnel - which at times is very narrow - deeper and deeper into the asteroid finally you're met by a large cavern, lit by strange glow-worm type things...

Now this is the kind of little things I'd like to see dotted around. Nothing to do with something being more valuable than something else, but something to be found, discovered and seen...

Or a strange alien craft in the middle of a nebula, which has defense mechanisms active, unless you fly in from its damaged rear to get close enough... etc etc...

So, true to my word... I've bought in for £85!

I was still available this morning and I thought what the hell, if I waste £85 it's not the end of the world and you never now it might be fun to be in there from the second round of beta testing, and have the option to jump into different places/different careers (explorer, pirate, bounty hunter, trader) that option gives you.

I still have a huge worry this game is not going to deliver. I fear it will get dull very quickly - A billions procedural systems will all look the same after the first dozen or so. Waat we really need is a GTA 5 level of development for this space game to throw loads of detail into it, but Frontier looks tiny in comparison to Rock Star :(

So unless there is a hell of a dedicated group of people putting in hand crafted vistas, locations and missions, I fear boredom :(

Anyway, here's hoping I'm wrong!

If you fancy teaming up on a server, I think we might stand a better chance together then by ourselves :)

Another interesting question regarding teaming up. So you decide you want to team up, and realise you are 1000 light years apart? What next?
