I need some advice about when you get attacked by something way more powerful than you.

The only thing I can think to do is swerve around wildly while waiting for my FSD to charge - except that latter thing never seems to happen. It gets to half charge, and then just sits there. There's nothing to indicate why it's not going any further. How the hell are you supposed to get away?

Turning flight assist off (FAOFF) can help, throw yourself into a spin and add some lateral movement which will make you harder to hit, your FSD is stalling due to Mass Lock (bigger ships mass lock smaller ships is the general rule of thumb), you need to get further away from the enemy ship or target and jump to another system (High Wake) as this is not affected by mass locking.

Nah, still get plenty of pirates in USS, you wont get many if any at all in weak ones though, also, if you need to hunt USS because the Nav beacon is useless or there are no RES in a system remember to throttle back and look for them, that way they will spawn and be immediately in range for dropping into :)

I seem to have sorted out my fps issues with Horizons now, just needed to tweak a few settings and everything seems to be good now, certainly good enough for me at any rate, been messing around and this is probably my best screenie so far I reckon :)

Great pic mate :)

Interesting, so I need to rapidly go to the nav tab and pick a different system before engaging the FSD?

Or if your ship is faster than theirs (which if they're more powerful, usually means you're in a smaller and quicker ship) then whack 2 points in shield and 4 in engines, and keep mashing that boost button :P

That's exactly what I tried, but they were through my shields and damaging systems in moments.

If I'd jettisoned cargo would that have done anything? Assuming it was a pirate. (IT was NPC.)

OK, it turns out I had still got the stock shield on my Adder without realising it. Now I've upgraded, I have quite a bit more lastability to make my escape.

Next big question!
I don't understand the loadout requirements as well as I should yet. I was having difficulty with my lasers failing after firing a few times. I thought - too much power draw (had 3 of them) so swapped my medium hardpoint to a cannon. Even only firing the 2 burst lasers I have though (rated G) they will stop firing for quite a long amount of time sometimes. Not showing as overheating though. Just running out of charge?

I've fitted an A rated reactor and a B rated power distributor to try to combat this, but not made much difference.

Any tips? What am I not understanding correctly? My power usage according to edshipyard is 78% with hardpoints deployed. When fighting, as long as I'm not under fire, I have 4 pips to weapons. Is it just a limitation of the lasers themselves?

Yeah, do that but still run out really quick. I guess it'd make sense to do some experimenting where there aren't any other ships. When you're in danger for your life, hard to make sure you've looked at every readout properly!

980 as a minimum? yikes O_o
I may have to get a DK2 instead...

As for other 'human' players, I haven't seen a single one yet.
Don't take short duration missions. There's usually a few stretching out over days or even weeks.

Keep an eye out for USSes and Distress Calls - Those often have the best pirates. Failing that, the RESes are top notch, especially the High Intensity ones!

As for human players - There are 400 billion systems in this... and the universe is big. Really big! I can go weeks without even seeing another human.

I really really want to get the DK2 but common sense is telling me to wait, as it is dead money so to speak and not that long till the official launch but man I am arguing with myself big time :D

Okay, I have finally got myself broken into this.

Reasonable comfortable with HOTAS, voice attack enabled, and know how to get around systems/dock etc.

But MAN. No initial idea what I really should be doing haha. Done a few basic courier mission, then tried to find a pirate to kill for a mission but no idea where to find him. On the one hand, I appreciate ED for its 'just make your own adventure' style, but at the same time could appreciated at least tiny bit more hand holding for the different systems that you are interacting with in the game.

I know I can read it all up, but it doesn't quite feel the same as organically coming to an understanding using in universe tool.

I'm unsure whether I will keep at it though, I am tempted to just wait for the Vive and start my real ED experience properly with that, because I'm sure that will amazing. And I think a 970 could handle it, just need to turn maybe a few options down.

Watched a bit of “Click” TV Kate playing last night and it looks fantastic when you have friends also driving about around you on the surface. I know its only Beta but seemed to have only a few glitches. They need to find a way to ramp up performance and get more human players in an instance if you ask me. They also have to give you more purpose in game for doing stuff be it an actual commodity market linked and events like they need “X” delivered to station for building and when the amount is delivered a little bit more is built. If a group decided this station should be massive and well defended then there should be a outlet for them to achieve that.

I backed the KS from day one with a copy included but have not set foot the ED universe yet. I have watched too many hours on twitch lol… Once the new rig drops I’m going to enjoy it all. Still need to get horizons all the same so I hope it goes on sale.

As for the VR I think the longer I wait for the new rig the better from my old 2004 build. Got a split new still in the Box Ipad air2 to tide me over now as twitch is only watchable on my iphone so have it sitting in a wee stand when I'm on my PC. Hope you are all enjoying the Beta and finding those bugs and reporting!

When you accept missions, they tell you where to go and if you press 1 and scroll to the transactions tab, that will also tell you where to go. It is quite daunting to start and there isn't really any hand holding to speak of but stick with it and you will soon learn what the game has to offer.

I would tend to stick with delivery missions to start with and try and aim for a newer ship (the Cobra being sweet), also whilst doing missions, you are ranking up with the system you are in, so if you wanted to get system permits (like SOL), these are very good for that.

There is trader helpers like Thrudds and Inara that help you see what the best things to trade are and where to trade them. I find these both invaluble and a good way of making some credits.

Then there is upgrading your ship and that can be a bit overwhelming but you will soon see what works for you and what is a good loadout.

Plus there is many people here who are far wiser than me in this game that will be glad to offer some advice if you need it :)

Fly safe Commander :)

Minimum spec for VR in E: D has been announced:

  • Minimum Spec for VR:
  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64 bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770K Quad Core CPU or better / AMD FX 4350 Quad Core CPU or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 980 with 4GB or better
  • Network: Broadband Internet Connection
  • Hard Drive: 8 GB available space
A lot of people are going to need an upgrade!

How does my spec (in sig) compare to this? Will it mean a whole new system?

Depends how much you can pick one up for, versus how much a new GPU and CV Rift (or other VR kit) will cost.

For me, it looks like £300 for DK2 vs £800 for new GPU kit (has to be W/C'd), plus whatever the VR then costs.

I could probably live with 1080p VR until a CV and kit becomes affordable.
