*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Nobody plays powerplay for the simple reason that it sucks. Maybe if they make it better, more people might play it? Certainly, people have been complaining about how crap it is since forever, so it's a bit harsh to criticise FDev for updating it.

Likewise, people have been crying out for new ships for years. Maybe you don't care, but lots of players will be very happy about this.

Of course, whether FDev will deliver anything that's actually "good" is a whole other question! But some people just seem to enjoy complaining, and whatever FDev do they'll get stuck in and have a nice whinge about it
You should refrain from inferring things I didn't say, it's not helpful.

Base building... See even less point to that than the FPS added in by Odyssey.
there isnt a single feature FD could add that would please everyone. At this point i will take any expansion which was originally outlined in the design discussion era at the start which so far hasnt made it in.

truth is i dont think eite will get anything major added to the game now. possibly on foot thargoid shooting because that is just new models for mechanics already in game.

base building would be a brilliant addition imo, as would ship interiors or landing on thick atmosphere planets or entering gas giants......... The problem isnt the feature they add next which is the problem........ it is the multiple years which have gone on with seemingly little to no new content added. It has been so long with many players desperate for new content that no one feature really will be enough to satisfy everyone... the game needs a complete paid expansion with multiple new features added. (imo of course)

Agreed... They've gone down routes over the past 6+yrs of:-
- Choosing simple bolt on gameplay mechanics, and then often releasing them in unbalanced or half baked ways. eg: Do you remember the initial talk of Groups and Fleet Carriers? And how in the end they were delayed and released in such a cut down half baked fashion they were all but pointless? Groups have no purpose, and only being allowed to have on of them? Carriers being nothing more than glorified transports.
- Putting effort into odd choices. Why all the effort put into a medocre questionable FPS when it could have gone into say a solid procedural engine to put diverse and meaningful plant life on planets based on Stellar Forge and terrain maps to reward exploration? Or put the Thargoid Invasion in as almost a Powerplay mechanic so players could engage with it via tasks in systems to affect an outcome.

At this point, all the hope from the first few years of the game has long been lost for me, with FD showing a serious lack of desire or understanding with what to do with a game which had such a great start. Engineering was the beginning of the end for me... :(

Yep the fleet carrier group mechanic would have been a Cool thing, You need a group of people to fly it, crew it, maintain it and you jump off into the void finding planets that look like every other planet. While it might be lifelike space in Elite dangerous is boring.

I come at it from a slightly different angle...... As someone not interested in joining large guilds and what not i have no interest at all in ships which need multiple player crew and indeed that was one of the things from the get go i liked about ED.

*however* equally it is absurd that it only takes 1 person to fly these ships (elite lore is quite clear... the biggest ship flyable in elite solo is the cobra mk3. For me where Elite fails at its greatest is them dropping the really quite indepth npc crew which were planned for the game.
there would have been cheap no named crew to actually allow you to fly a big ship, cheap to employ and easy to get... then on top of that npc specialists............ pilots, science officers, engineers and commandos each one having their own elite rankings which would increase with experience these would be harder to find, perhaps as part of mission wrinkles or what not or rare rewards for rescuing escape pods etc (ok we have slf pilots but that is all and their cost is really insane).

Also depending on where you found them some would be more compatible than others, so if you hire a pilot with a lawful personality and an engineer from a pirate base they are not going to get on.

further more the pirate would not be happy doing milk runs trading, but the lawful one would not take kindly to destroying unarmed traders without a criminal record.

the cherry on the icing of that cake would then be multiplayer multicrew where you could invite a player to take on one of the npc roles for a session.

none of the above is especially ground breaking but would give a huge amount of stuff to work towards whilst playing. some may say "grinding" but so long as the crew levelling up is part of normal gameplay then to me that is just playing the game.

Yeah it sucks, choosing a side and then engineering your life to fit around that sides politics sounds to me like a religion, i'm an atheist.

Even as it is i seem to upset someone whatever i do, at least i'm constantly being told i've upset this faction because i didn't pay enough attention to the fact that i had a reputation with them and shouldn't done that particular thing i just did.... how about i shoot you all in the face?

Oh... Base Building, NOW... you have my interest.

I haven't played ED in a while, though I've been getting my space fix with occasional stints on NMS.

Just looking the discussions above on updates etc., can I still play ED as though it's just Euro Truck Sim but in space? I.e. I can do hauling missions, random trading and such like?

Yes. I had done something similar a while ago just running some missions to get back into it. Not sure if the launchers been updated now, but you could just launch the ED base version minus horizon to not be bothered with planetary missions.

make sure you load the odyssey code base however and not the old legacy code base.

they have different saves and the stuff you do on legacy wont carry over to the "live" game

'Euro truck sim' in space is actually coming out. Incase you've not seen it.

The problem with it is why bother, when it’s basically the same process of take off, jump, land, with little variety in what you see.
My guess is that a good number of ED cmdrs wandered off to FS2020, where that adds things like weather and seeing something that is far closer to reality than ED, which guessing some things

Because he enjoys that style of play at a guess?
