*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

It just opens the window for them doing stuff like 100000 Arx to own a megaship you can plonk anywhere you want, out in the black somewhere even nowhere near any other colony, with whatever functions on the vessel they can entice you with,. Another 100000 Arx for a token to move it somewhere else etc etc. I don't like the smell of it to be honest. I'd be perfectly ok if it was a timed thing, or included in a much more substantial "expansion" pack like Odyssey. At the end of the day though people will only pay for what they personally value.

I am tempted to get one and make it into a barebones trader. I have never really got on with my Cutter and I find the T9 is overheating badly since I fitted SCO drives. If I shift some modules around it shouldn't cost too much.
Well, I bought one. Just made it into a basic trade build. It flies quite nicely but the view is terrible and I managed to get it stuck in the mail slot on my only manual launch attempt. I don't use docking computers normally and launch and dock my T9 and Cutter without thinking about it. When I saw the the Plipper had an active docking computer by default I used it to launch and then dock but the next launch I turned off the computer and tried manually. I wasn't surprised to scrape the slot until I got used to where to aim going through but I got completely stuck. I couldn't move or reverse. I had to exit the game to get the ship reset.

Is anyone manually launching and docking the Plipper? If so any tips?

Now I just have to find something to do with it. Is there any use for large trade ships outside CGs and colonisation?

I've done it a few times with no issues, I let the computer do it the first time to see where it positioned itself when going through the dock and it was definitely high from a normal point of view so I made a point of copying that.

I fly mine. In maybe 100 times I have docked I have had to menulog twice once in the mailslot (I think it glitched as visually it was not stuck) and once I got it proper wedged in the colonisation scaffolding.
generally I scrape a bit but if it gets stuck deploy and retract landing gear gets it free.
unlike other ships I don't deploy my gear till am in the station
also keep the ship high in the slot and don't change your trajectory too soon when inside.

mine is for trade CGs and colonisation

mining I have my T10 (T8 maybe once out of paywall) and am not gonna fight or explore in one

My money is on you only being able to land on the planet/moon that is relevant with the new Caspian that you can only buy with arx for the next several months.

Seems a reasonable guess, the Burr Pit thought that the Caspian may become a ship capable of landing on planets with thicker atmospheres.

Greetings Commanders,
We've been listening to all your feedback since we revealed the new Dodec station type and understand that many of you weren't happy with the idea of the station being only available via the Game Store permanently.
A lot of thought goes into the decisions we make and our intention at all times is to make the game better for everyone, however this time we don't think we got it right!
Therefore, we have taken this feedback on board, and we will now be releasing the Dodec initially via ARX Early Access for a period of time similar to what you would expect from a ship release. After that period, the Dodec will be constructable via in-game means without the need for any ARX purchase.

Overturned by Frontier. I do wish they'd put News in the News forum tho'. I only knew of the Dodo's return from here.
I will be interested if it has the same "infinite destroy and replace" that ships have or if once it's placed down that is it's permanent spot.
I hope you can't pop up then pop down them at will like a tent if you pay cash

Whilst I am generally against mtx, in games like this I kind of feel it's almost justified just to keep the lights on. If this game shut down there is literally no other alternative.

FDev do need a revenue stream to keep ED on line and maintained. So you pay a monthly subscription or buy stuff from a store etc.

Yes, but there are ways of doing it that don't go against what they told the player base when they sold the game to them, there is also no need for them to completely go down the massive corporate greed route that they are currently inevitably sliding towards. It's abundantly clear to me that whomever is in charge over at FD has their mindset firmly in the mobile gaming monetisation sphere and in the long run it'll do way more harm than good to the game, obviously just my opinion...

I hear you but do you not also think that whilst whatever was said for the kickstarter, circumstances change and it may have been not much of a choice in terms of keeping it going or abandoning ship? I wonder how many people who originally backed it still play, would be interesting to know the numbers. I agree there is probably a better way to secure the game's longer term future, I feel cosmetics would be an obvious choice as they have zero impact on game play, I know they have a few.

No, if they need to change direction like that then they need to open that discussion with the players who purchased the game with the information given to them by FD, there is no excuse for bait and switch regardless of the age of the game without any sort of consultation with the players first.
