The *Official* Eve Online Thread

If pvp was designed as a loss making exercise than the whole mantra of Eve Online is defunct. The game is built to let you live as you wish and I for one am a purely pvp funded playter aka. pirate. Granted it's not as stable an income but by no means is it a difficult life.

Also it's damn fun. The only thing you won't be able to afford are throwaway battleships every single day, though I can't assume that will upset too many people.

pvp is designed as a loss making exercise, it's based on people spending hard earned isk on ships that will die in a glorious explosion of space pixels, from titans down to rifters. The entire eve economy only functions because pvp is designed as a loss making exercise. PVP is the reward for the grind, it's the adreneline rush of putting your isk on the line. Some hold on to their ships longer than others but eventually they all pop.

For the most part Low-sec pirating for a living is camp gank/run smack & griefing. With large portions of sec status grinding in between. It's not pvp it's gang rape. Yes you can do it and make a living, but it's terribly boring(in my opinion;)) I'd prefer to grind as little as possible for the most amount of isk so i can go out and find genuine pvp fights without worrying about dying in a fire.

Oh yeah dont get me wrong the ****er was a noob if he was active tanked that alone let us get him down but even if he wasnt and we switched over to his friend we ransomed them as a collective.

If one of them was going down it would have only been a matter of time the fact we got his rattler down made the others pay.

This is an old killboard has a few kills of mine not all lmao just a few.

This has one of the fights i was in.
In that fight we killed a dominix dominix navy issue a megathron a legion and i think another dominix came but it came about 5 mins after we killed there main gang rofl.

They made mistakes there legion came in with a mwd to the mission gate,

They were trying to mission bait trap us in lowsec but we knew what they were doing but they failed there own trap sending there most expencive ship in there with an mwd lmfao.

Anyhoo good fights in eve all the time if you find them.

Is the following at all valid?

I want to create a 14 day free trial account to generally have a fanny about, not caring whether I optimise things from the start or really bothering about what character to choose etc. Then after than runs out I'll more or less forget about that account and if I like the game I'll ask someone if they would be so kind as to buddy me a 21-day account, which I would then treat as a proper account to optimise from the start etc and end up paying for.

Can you do this using the same account details for both, or will it say "Oi, you just had a 14 day trial you cheap get!"?

Other than being able to use the same account details, that's fine. It's probably a good idea actually so you can get used to the game because it is rather overwhelming when you start out so you can, with the 21 day account, correct any initial mistakes you made. If you want, just send me an email (Trust thingy) with your email address and I'll send you a 21 day trial that you can just collect when you finish your 14 day one (jumping in before others, as if you sub from the 21 day I get 30 days free :P).

You won't be able to use the same details for both accounts (email etc) as stated, you'll have to use another email account. Best idea would be to make a random hotmail account or something for the 14 day trial and then use your proper email account for the 21 day trial.

Cheers for that. So would I also have to put fake name, dob etc in as well, or just email?

Aha, so it would seem, just tried and it worked out fine... can put both my accounts on the same email, so that's handy :) Thanks for that, and sorry Bubo!

I've just re-subbed and started playing again with a very low SP char. Couple of million I think.

I'm going to buy an Abaddon tonight when I get home. I currently fly a Harbinger. I know I don't really have the skills to fly it, but I've already set my mind on it. Once I've sorted out my learning skills properly what are the basics I should be learning to fly it well?

One problem I've always had is staying at the right range when fighting. Should all my guns be the same range, and just deploy drones when things get to close? How should I fit it to get the most out of it?

I'll only be doing PvE with it at the moment as I know I don't have the skills or ISK to try PvP just yet.

Its going to be really hard to use it for PVE you need to focus on your capacitor and armor skills so you can tank and the skills that help you reduce the capacitor usage with your guns.

Otherwise wyou will run dry REALLY easily.

Im not sure on the fit i have not flown abbadons for a long time even then i use to do megapulse II fit for pvp.

I know for "NINJA EDIT" " sorry" pve you really need to fit for capaciter recharge.

Most people use the apoc for missions its easier.

If you take a look at what certificates the ship suggests you have to fly it that will give you a good understanding of what skills are required. the certificate system isn't perfect but for new players its very good.

Cool I'll take a look at those.

When it comes to range what's the best thing to do with weapons? I've got pretty good drone skills already so should I use heavy drones for short range defence? Or do heavy drones have problems hitting smaller\faster targets too?

Why would an Apocalypse be better for missions? I figured as a general rule the more expensive the battleship the better. :p

Lots of capacitor, range bonus makes pulse lasers more feasible. Nice and forgiving.
Abaddon is great, but brutal on cap useage.

It's all about getting a Nightmare though!

Right so short range pulse lasers are better than long range beam lasers and the Apoc has a range bonus?

I really don't intend to do anything that's going to put the ship in much danger initially since I'm really new to this, and it took me ages to save the 150mil ISK. So I've decided I want the Abaddon (it looks cooler, sue me :p) but weapon wise I'm still unsure of fitting. Should the guns all be the same range? What kind of items should I put in medium and low slots apart from cap rechargers and batteries?

How easy is it to find level II or III quality agents who'll speak to you? All of the ones I bump into are 'Not Available To You'.

Yes, keep all your guns the same range cause you want to concentrate your damage output on the one target and not spread it about.

Try using Eve Fitting Tool to see what you want to put on your ship. If you're relying on guns (which I don't cause I'm Gallente and mostly use drones) then I'd think you'll need cap rechargers and an afterburner to control the targeting range in missions. You'll proabably want your capactor to be stable with all your hardeners and guns on at the same time but it doesn't have to be with the afterburner on cause you'll only be using it in short bursts.

As for agents, look at the info for the agent you're currently working for and click on his corp icon. That'll take you to the corp info window where you'll find a full list of agents for that corp and it'll tell you which ones will work with you. Right click them and select 'set destination' to see how far away from you each one is.
