If your using any kinda sig tanking setup they are useful if you can afford it as the faction ammo doesn't bloom sig like the T2 high damage ammo does.

Meta8 failguns also have a higher optimal range than the T2 and higher meta ones which can be useful but in some cases the higher damage on the others often makes them just as effective at longer ranges.
 
Just renewed my sub (again).

My drake is gone, seems to have been exploded when I last logged off. (that's what I get for logging off in low sec I guess). Now to try and earn cash for a new ship.

You guys think I could make much money wrecking Ibis' for insurance? :P
 
I meant, buying insurance then having the ship wrecked. MY Merlin for platinum insurance was 90k ISK ish, and payout was 290k ISK.

I don't have an Ibis nearby to check insurance prices- but I imagine if the return is that good, you could make a tidy profit :p
 
You used to be able to do this.

At one point it was quite common to see people buying ships and self destructing them.

However, insurance payout was dropped and is now linked to mineral costs so it shouldn't be possible.

Might still be possible to turn a profit if you get a ship for way below market rate however I'd assume you'd still get more for selling it at market rate?

I've been in RvB for a little while.

Like most things, you'll get out what you put in but it was a little too gate-campy for my personal tastes.
 
im a ps3 owner and am interested in the eve/dust cross over stuff!

ive not played eve but have played other MMO's, im wondering how is it for new comers, is it good to get into now?
 
You'll pretty much always be behind other people that started before you when it comes to total skillpoints which is what defines how good you are at stuff. On the other hand there is a maximum number of skill points you can invest in to any particular skill, so if you specialise in something you will be as good as the 8 year player in a relatively short time, the difference is that 8 year player is good at lots of different things too.

It's entry requirements are probably a lot higher than in other MMO's. Saying that, I'm still a noob, been paying on and off for a year. I love the idea of the game and how it works, just lack of time recently.

The thing is about Eve, is that whilst you literally can do anything you want at any point. It does take a little time to get there. It's not like WoW, where you can change your class and level to cap in a few days. You sorta have to plan out what you want.
Pick what you want to do, then work towards it. Tools like Evemon are useful for that. I can hook you up with a 21 day free trial if you like

As the dude said above, there are skill caps for everything. So if you decide to do something, you can max it out and be as good at it as anyone else. Older players, will just have more expertise in other areas.

does sound quite different to other mmo's ive played. thanks for the advice and offer of a trial, ive just started downloading a 14 day one on steam so will give that a go i think :D

If you want to play "Maximum Skillpoints Possible Online" instead of Eve Online, then yes, there's no point in playing. But if you want to do that you may as well play progress quest and save yourself all that effort clicking things and paying a subscription. Eve is about PvP, and you can get into that with minimal SP. I hear there's a minigame in eve to do with clicking on red + signs that you can play solo but that's pretty crap.
