The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

Why train defenders?

Just use your best forward / midfielder.

Spill the beans.

Highlight below if you want to see, some people might not want to though because it's such an effective tactic so please don't quote me anyone. :)

Two players - Flick
Two players - Keeper
Two players - St Far
Two players - Lurk (one of them is corner taker, the other your best long shooter with good first touch)
Two players - Back

Corners - Penalty Area

This setup leaves lurking player completely free. He can control the ball, advance to the goal and shoot freely...

So before your game make sure your best corner taker is set to a lurker (and obviously in the corner taker list) and the best most suited for hitting them in, so high finishing, first touch and long shots as the other lurker.

Just so you know you will probably score silly amounts of goals from this because it works so effectively.

since my team is much more 'gifted' than what you start with at wigan ive changed my tactics from the very narrow to the much more attacking.

** new tactic working well

Get Dodo for the left back position...:) He's a great talent and should do good for this season swapping between him and Capedevila, then next season he'll be ready to play there non stop. :D

he snubbed me :/

im going for sebastien pocognoli from manu, he seems promising.

Dear god Azza that tactic is AMAZING! Dean Ashton with a hat trick with it :D (he got a 4th from normal play too)

And now to praise the tactic creator to finally set my players up sort of right...

cardoza is a long range machine he is banging them in from all over.

3 against manu then next game 4 against liverpool :p

OK guys, if you want a wonder tactic to use this is what you want. This is the one I'm having a play with now. I can't hide the link to download so don't click it if you don't want it.

Highlight below for more info.

Don't click if you don't want the formation.

The tactic is based around building a solid defence, but a very forceful offence, passing into feet to move the ball up the pitch, keeping lots of possession and taking lots of shots.

Just a note on players positions:

  • Keeper. Aerial Ability Command of area Handling One on Ones Reflexes Positioning Agility.
  • Fullbacks. Tackling - Marking Positioning Teamwork Workrate Anticipation Stamina.
  • Central Defenders. Marking Tackling Positioning Heading Determination Anticipation Pace Jumping.
  • Anchor Man. Heading Marking Tackling Anticipation Concentration Decisions Positioning Workrate Team Work Strenth.
  • Central Midfielder. First Touch Passing Decisions Off The Ball Positioning Teamwork.
  • Advanced Forward. Dribbling Finishing First Touch Composure Off The Ball
  • Deep Lying Forward. Creativity Decisions First Touch Off The Ball Technique Passing.

And also, I can't remember if the corner placement is set right, so if you want to use the corner tactic make sure it's set to penalty area.

Using these touchline tactics at the start of the game does make it better.

Get Ball Forward
Pass to Feet
Work Ball into Box
Stay on Feet

Combined with the corner tactic it's amazing.

And please no one moan saying this is cheating etc etc blah blah. The corner tactic doesn't really exploit a bug in the game, it just makes sense.

i used what is now the 'corner tactic' before the new patch, manu do it often with the result normaly scholes blasting in an awsome volley. it didnt return half as many goals as it currently though.

just finished another season, seem to be motoring through them.

finished 8th in premier league which im not to pleased about, i need to sort my CBs out they let in way to many goals. 66 conceded which is the highest in the league, shame because i also scored the most in the league with 76.

not sure why but about 3/4 trough every season my results star to drop and in the last 5 or 6 games i go rubbish and cant win at all. very annoying as i am in the top 3 up until that point.

about to play chelsea in the fa cup final.

*** 2 FA cup wins in a row :) beat chelski 2-1 with that dirty terry being set off for bringing down moses as the last man

been approached by ac milan to take over and given a £55 mill transfer budget, but im a wigan man and have declined :)

also been approached by arsenal :)

new season signed steven taylor for 13 mill and fabiano satacroce for 20 mill as my 2 new CB's

having a major injury crisis, all my midfields are injured.

Tell me about it - bearing in mind I'm in the French 2nd divison and have a tiny budget (& squad) my current first team injuries are:

Only Serge Touré wouldn't be in my first choice starting XI...

It's not cheating per se but it is a bug, the opposition will never mark him, he could get 4 goals in a game and they would still never mark him, that's a bug.

Luckily the shooting system in FM is so **** that it doesn't seem to work all the time, I have Diego doing it, that's right finishing 18, first touch 19, long shots 16 Diego, and he still misses probably 80% of these chances.

Still getting the long shots bug with the latest patch, just no way to stop players taking far too many.

Ah but in real life Rickie Lambert can score from 45 yards with a lob.....

Anyway I found the corner thing to be very hit and miss. Had Dean Aston bury 4 in a game against Wolves but against Hull (who are equally as poor) I had 7 get hoofed off the line :(

Like everything with FM some times it's just not very sure how to do cool things in moderation
