***The Official Guitar Thread***

To be fair, Bream is right, but that poor guy probably never recovered from that.

He is much nicer to the woman playing sevilla, but still picks up a few points.

All those Albeniz pieces are horrifically difficult, to be fair.
I love the 2nd piece, i have it on a compilation CD. It's one of those ones I hope to learn one day but probably never will given how little time I seem to have these days

Sevilla, by Albeniz! I haven't tried it for years, but remember it is fairly difficult and I gave up. The legato section isn't too bad.

It might be on classclef (which is a FANTASTIC website with hundreds of guitar pieces, with tab).

I thought the first student sounded great after the pointers. He was a bit too harsh on him IMO, becoming very over-zealous at times, but clearly a mega-expert.

I think it's an age thing. The older and more accomplished the more he pushes them to be at the level they ought to. A bit like how you'd go harder on someone with 10 years job experience than someone with 2

That first student is a lot better than me!

Bream had very high standards, and had high expectations, too.

I love those masterclass videos. They show just how much attention Bream paid to every note.

A bit less lairy than the Deans, a nice 2002 Jagstang, designed by some Kurt dude...

I just picked this up earlier, amazing condition for a 20+ year old guitar.

I've never seen anyone own one of these, never mind 3.

ha ha! yeah! I just got looking at them the other day, spotted the 2002 and grabbed it as it was in almost 100% as new condition (but slightly gutted it wasn't a 90's one), found the 2021 for very cheap so snapped it up, was going to give it to my Daughter to learn on but it is literally as new! Still got plastic over the scratch plate.

Then I found the 1997 and did a 200 mile round trip to collect it this morning.

this is it now! No more. I've gone from 2 guitars to 12 in 2 weeks!! :O

Some I think I'm going to store, others will stay out to play

10 guitars in 2 weeks, that's got to be a record! (mine was 3 in 10 days)

The green 2 I'm not so fussed about.

After all that it is 10! I missed a Dean Dime-o-flame :D

The Dime's are keepers for sure

A page or so ago we were talking about notes having feelings and I pushed back slightly on the ‘notes need feeling’ as it ultimately depends on the piece of music as a whole.

Case in point, stumbled back onto some fabulous Gilberto on shuffle and man, the solo in Space Ship One just… rules :D

There's very little 'emotional phrasing' but it's still supremely musical and really hits a 'feel good' vibe for me. And it's weaved into such a goofy yet epic tune - love it!

Yeh!

For me Paul Gilbert was the elephant in the room when we were talking about shred Vs feel/ quantity Vs quality. Has more speed and precision than anyone but manages to make every note feel relevant! And so clearly cares more about the song rather than his guitar playing, I think he's really evolved into a song lover and performer in recent years :)

I was a mega PG fan boy - I even have a PGM301 guitar sitting in its case - but overall I think he’s lost it a bit in recent years as he’s become more bluesy and jazzy. His records are, for a lack of better words, dull. It just doesn’t speak to me any more :(

Give me more of this:

Or this:

And less of this:

I mean it’s stunning playing but… doesn’t hit the spot for me in the same way without the goofy pop song structures.
