***The Official Guitar Thread***

Just bought this beauty, a 2021 Gibson Eds-1275, who's serial number is dated to my birthday.

This will be the last guitar purchase... Really!

My Dads CSL back in 1974 in Nigeria which is the only time I've tried a twin neck.
You probably think I'm doing Stairway To Heaven or similar but I'm probably doing Buddy Holly :)

I’ve decided my next guitar will be an ES-335 of some sort. I played a lovely Epiphone (the Joe Bonamassa one) in Rich Tone Music a couple of days ago but it had a neck repair and I couldn’t justify it even with the discount as it would probably tank the resale value. Part of me wants to try some Gibsons as the Bonamassa version was a cut above the basic Epiphones but £££! I’m also pretty tempted by one with a tremolo unit like the Bonamassa but seems like a rarity.

You can fit your own Bigsby pretty easily, maybe find the guitar that feels right and add the Bigsby once you've gelled with it?

Bit of a treat for myself post Christmas
Thanks for posting that, I've been looking at getting a medium scale bass. Looks just right, love the colour too.

I have a Yamaha TRBX 304, which is great, but I find the frets a bit of a stretch.

I'm hoping the string tension isn't as slack as a short scale.

@LOAM I blame your “only live once” post for this but I bought this from Rich Tone myself earlier:

A 2018 ES-335. Absolutely stunning colour and easily the nicest guitar I’ve ever played. The neck profile was subtly different to the Bonamassa but in a good way, and the nitro finish lends it a much nicer feel. Stunning tone out of the box as you’d expect. I just need to do it justice!

My mind is just blown by it, it practically plays itself. I'm really not doing it justice because of how rubbish I am but along with the wife, we're going to grow old together lol.

looking for some advice on interfaces...

ideal situation would be a single device that deals with all Windows audio (Youtube/Spotify/Media Player etc..) that I can also connect an external amp/modeller, (probably?) using direct monitoring, so I can hear both Windows audio and the amp/modeller output...this device would also have an instrument level input that would be used for Amplitube etc but the device could still output all Windows audio sounds from YT/Spotify etc at the same time as using Amplitube etc....POD would be permanently connected. The only changing of cables would be guitar to pod or guitar to interface

if that doesn't make sense!....

the interface I've used for all Windows audio and to connect a POD XT is a Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 with one input (L+R rca plugs connected to the POD), always have the direct monitor switched on so I can have Youtube/Spotify/Transcribe etc etc audio playing and also hear the POD... the RCA output is connected to my headphone amp and the headphone out is connected to my speakers so I can hear Windows audio along with the guitar from the POD on either speakers or headphones

the setup works with standalone plugins (Amplitube, Neural DSP etc) by setting the input to be the Behringer and have all the amps/effects/stomps off in the POD so it's just passing the straight guitar sound to the Behringer...the problem there is Amplitube/Neural etc takes over the use of the Behringer ASIO4ALL driver so the only thing you can hear is the output from Amplitube etc

bought one of the cheapest interfaces M-Audio M-Track Solo - now have that connected to the input on the Behringer instead of the POD... so in Amplitube etc the input/output is set to the M-Audio ASIO driver, Windows still uses the Behringer ASIO driver for Windows so can hear both at the same time, but the POD is no longer connected

ideal situation is to have 2 cables permanently connected to the input of the POD (or any other amp/modeller) and another connected to the intrument level input of the interface for plugins

I only used it for a month in Nigeria.
I had a guitar called a Yamaha SG2000 which was heavier than that.

I used to have a G&L bass, the body was made of mahogany, I think. It weighed an absolute ton. No fun gigging with that!

At the other end, I had an 11 course theorbo lute (yeah, don't ask) that probably weighed about 2 pounds, tops. I always used to worry it would blow away when I was playing outdoor shows.

Sharing in the guitar thread because it’ll be lost in the GD YouTube thread.

This piano vid is sensational. Grand master pianist stuns her audience by playing ‘beginners piece’ Fur Elise as her encore.

The crowd actually laughs and groans at the start. She has the last laugh though. Absolutely ****ing godlike. It’s like she’s not playing with her hands… but her soul.

Just goes to show, it’s all about how you play those notes :)

I share the audience's opinion tbh. Well played but it is still quite a basic piece for a concert pianist. She nails it, but in the way that you'd expect Lewis Hamilton to win at a gokarting day. Since this is the guitar thread we must now ask her to perform it on a guitar, or at least a key-tar!

Bringing the thread back on piste:

Capturing the feel of a song is so much harder. I’ve been playing One by U2 off and on for my whole life and it’s only now that I feel close to truly getting it. It’s such a simple riff but the timing, dynamics and tone make it. There’s a million other examples like it.
