This thread should cover it.

Can we keep this one topic for the new owners?
What you need is a Moderator to actually moderate these type of threads, especially when the post was done early prior to people recieiving the cards, people will just speculate this, speculate that & it all just goes totally out of control - 8 pages & counting.

Suggestion - When doing a thread like this, should put on main page in bright yellow "Do not post unless you own the card & are posting benching results/discussion etc." Something like that, then maybe the moderators may help you.

Ask the moderators to delete all the pages except your inital post, thats what I would do. :)

First, they refuse to call a spade a spade: this part was absolutely delayed, and it works better to admit this rather than making excuses. Forcing MSAA resolve to run on the shader hardware is less than desirable and degrades both pixel throughput and shader horsepower as opposed to implementing dedicated resolve hardware in the render back ends

I wonder maybe this is why preformance is bad with AA's

You're right of course, a little speculation never hurt though. Btw, does anyone ever read the front page?

"Easier to live with" doesn't sound like "omfg this is a GTS killer right here boys" to me.

Let's face the facts: both cards have crap drivers but the GTS is cheaper and performs better, consumes less power and makes less noise. Oh, and you know they're not going to fail in their droves like some previous HIS cards. :)

While (from the reviews of the 2900 series cards) I agree with the above , I would also say that Nvidia are just as bad for producing such awful Vista drivers (I mean how long has Vista been out now - 3 months, plus the length of time nV would have had final code to design their drivers around)

I am really disappointed in the ATI/AMD offering, but Im also seriously annoyed at nv for making me wait this long to use an otherwise decent card (8800GTX ) at anywhere near its potential with a major OS release.

Both companies are equal in blame for different reasons in my opinion

I am still interested in a medium range ATI card for a media centre but Im not touching the top of the range

I Win!

No 24" TFT, No new graphics card. . . . unless Nvidia fix their drivers in Vanguard!!!!!!!

See you next generation. . . :p
More a case of Vanguard fixes its engine. Worst graphics engine I've come across, mmmm maybe not - Gothic3.

Well, one can be had much cheaper than the other. that alone might help you :)
I'm sorry but unless you can proove otherwise, i have shown why that isnt true above, the ATI is about £20 dearer which is made up for by the Blackbox bundle and in some cases STALKER added aswell

looks like theres no sign of a 2 molex -> 6pin adapter in the HIS one (from what ive been reading) which means people who dont have SLi PSUs (me :( ) might have a few issues, i guess ill go rumagine round my x1800 box, see if that had one

the cards come with two molex to 6pin addapters, or 1 + a molex to 8pin

someone always catches the pre-edits lol and some quick net hopping reveals my old card should have said adapter...now to pop over to dads and find the damn thing

I have been waiting for this card for ages and admittedly I'm a Ati fan but they have dropped the ball on this one. It is a easy decision for me especially considering the power requirements of this card, price and performance. The wait is over and I have ordered a 8800 GTS which even uses less power than my current X1900XTX. I was hoping for something special in order to lower prices, but Nvidia have no need to in the near future. (even though they have for GTS's) HardOcp have put it rather well.

Here is what it boils down to. If the Radeon HD 2900 XT performed exactly on par with the GeForce 8800 GTS in every game, it would still be a loser because it draws nearly 100 more watts of power, meaning it is very inefficient. The facts are though that it doesn’t even match the 8800 GTS currently. In every game it slides in underperforming compared to the GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB, and it does it while drawing a lot more power, as much power or more as an 8800 GTX. Not only that, but a GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB based video card can now be had for up to $70 cheaper than the Radeon HD 2900 XT. I don’t know about you, but a video card that is cheaper, runs a lot faster and draws less energy just seems like the better value to me.
