***The Official Home Recording Studio Thread***

I'm thinking of getting the E5's. They look outstanding for the money. £200 odd for a pair is great value. Which ones are you looking at?

One thing though mate, how would I connect them to my PC? Would I have to have an audio interface?

Looking at the e5 mate...

Pretty much with anything like this it would make sense to have a decent quality USB DAC audio interface mate...

Remember they are monitors not speakers :)

What sound card you got ?

My home studio in 1985 :D

I can't remember that synth :(

I was one of the first people in the country to get my hands on a Portastudio 144 and can even name the day I bought it.
It was bought on September 26 1980 because the day after I got married and my wonderful wife said it was OK to spend £600 on it.
Yes, I've been married 35 years today.

Very cool Dimpy :) Very cool :D

I'll tell you what is cool and it's a story from each of those home studios because what I had at the time was quite advanced & costly to other local musicians.

1) We have a local guitarist who has been going from strength to strength over the last 20 years but every time I pass him he ignores me which does upset me because I'm a nice guy who helps local lads. Last year I'd paid £10 to go and see him and after the show I stood outside with the smokers and he came out and it soon became apparent that he wanted to talk to me.
He said "You don't know me do you?", I said "of course I do, I've been following you for years", "Yeah but you don't know who I am and where I know you from?".
Anyway, he was in awe of me and I'd been his earliest influence when he was about 12 and he used to come with his Uncle to the 1981 studio to do some recording. He told his Uncle he wanted to be like me and that's why he was always shy in front of me. He's obviously head & shoulders above me but it makes me feel warm.

2) Last year another similar experience. I was watching an absolutely amazing keyboard player who I'd never seen before and after I had to shake his hand. He then went through the same conversation as above and then declared he used to come with his Dad to my 1985 studio and when he saw me playing keyboards that's what started him.

I'd give my teeth to play in a band with those two.

I was supposed to record some vocals over the weekend but the vocalist cancelled twice (Saturday and Sunday).

I'm really struggling to find other people who want to record in a dining room for free (unsurprisingly) and because I can't play any instruments (other than drums) and I can't sing I'm stuck.

I'd be sat in front of my mac recording every weekend if I could but I end up recording 2-3 tracks a year because I have no one to work with.

It is frustrating...The key is just do what you can...and enjoy the process...

Just give singing a go...Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix did! ;)
