The Roland only has USB to connect it to the PC...

Currently have the roland piano connected to the PC via USB (only way to connect) and the PSR 520 midi in and out connected to a Roland Octa capture 5 pin in out and out..

PSR 520 midi out to midi in on the octoacapture
PSR 520 midi in connected to the midi out on the octa capture.

Ok - you'll need a DAW active then. Roland to computer, then out the Octa into the Yamaha. Ensure on your DAW you have 'Soft Thru' enabled.

I don't need to connect the out of the yamaha into the octa capture then? I can unplug this cable?

My head hurts lol

Yes - unless you want to also be able to use the Yamaha to input MIDI data to the DAW/computer.

Great I'll have a play....I so old school....But There are some cool sounds in the 520 bank....

Mostly I will be using Mics and real instruments though..But for strings and the odd sound it will be cool.

Since installing the acoustic treatment over the weekend..The results have bee amazing...No longer a washy spilly mushy sound coming from the drums...

The bass traps have done the most to tame this room...Its amazing.

More is needed around the kit..But I do not want to kill the room dead...I can freely move the acoustic panels about and hang them where I wish if needed...

I need to order more tiles to sort out the reflection points of the monitors..especially the right one...but best to have not enough and order more if needed.

TBH the sound is a bit naff...It has a standard 6 pole guitar pickup on it. Fender to save cost just used six string guitar pickups for the musicmaster so its not got a lot of punch...

I need to get one of these for it..

That studio looks amazing easyrider, personally I would be beyond happy with that.

Alas I'm doing recording mostly 'in the box' on a shoestring budget without even decent monitors atm, pretty uninspiring and an excellent way to lose interest in a hobby fast.

This thread is a real eye-opener for me! :o

Edit:- Out of interest, what is your budget/damage for all your gear/space?

The room used to be a home cinema that I built when I knocked the house down and rebuilt a new house.I converted the Garage (see cinema 1 in sig) to a home theatre to keep me sane for the time until the house was completed.

Now the house is finished I moved my cinema to the main house ( see cinema 2 in sig ) this left the double garage to be a dumping ground for boxes of stuff no one knew what to do with.:mad:

So I reclaimed it for myself and decided to install a Home studio.So I had a lot of the gear already...My guitars and the like. I bought a cheap i7 mobo combo on MM for the DAW.

The main recent expenditure has been the Shure Drum mic kit and the Adam Monitors and the Roland F130R Digital Piano. But its always been a dream of mine to have a room with all my gear in setup ready.

24 acoustic Tiles £29 (I need more of these) The panels they are on used to be picture frames see Hendrix, Lennon and Bowie here

I just took out the pictures and the laminate and glued the sponge tiles in place inside the frame. Six Tiles fit perfectly :D .This means I can move them about to get the acoustics right. :D

Persian rugs 40 quid each

So really not that much in terms of cost as I had most of the stuff anyway. Guitars and Amps drums have been with me for years.I just never had a single space for it all.The drums have been in stoarge for years :o

Rather than buying more foam, put a curtain rail up and get some heavy (!) draped theatrical curtain blacks. This way it's far easier to open or close the drapes to change the character of the room, not to mention position them around the space. Don't make the mistake of putting the rail in such a way that the drapes hang close to the wall. You want an air space between the drape and the wall, this way you get a double whammy effect, the sound is partially absorbed, then reflects back off the wall into the drape again.
