Because the Conservative tactic of telling everyone in England that you would get the SNP dictating policy, would not have worked.

It was the main tactic they were using.

To deter joke candidates, anyone standing for election has to pay a £500 deposit. You only get your deposit back if you get at least a 5% share of the vote.

You have to deposit £500 to stand as a candidate. You need 5% of the vote otherwise you loose the money.

Their primary goal is independence. And a Tory minority government, or Tory+ government, would fit with that nicely. The Tories won't mind doing English votes for English laws and Scottish votes for English laws, or similar, because it'll further damage Labour's chances and will benefit the Tories long term... and that leads to Scotch rule for the Scotch, so they'd be happy as well.

I did mention earlier this may have been Nicola's plan all along. But it is very cynical. I just think it has all backfired.
