I think mine said that first but it started downloading 4.2.1. Because iTunes updates are obviously re-downloads of the whole OS so.

Still says my iPad is miles away...

of course for iPad unless you have a 3G ones it's useless. And it's useless full stop with a iPod. But I still don't see the point.. If it's saying my device is miles away.. even if it gets accuracy down to a few 100 metres, what's the benefit?

so if you leave it at work or out on a night or something you know where its most probably where you left it.

With my iphone it has my address pretty much spot on, its within the next street so i can tell easily if its home or at work or whatever.

Best example of its use would be when i went to an OcUK motors meet. We met up at a pub, had a pub meal, then drove off somewhere else to go to a pub and up for a drive on the moors. Whilst up there i realised i didnt have my phone. Did i leave it at back at the second pub ? or at the first one ? or did i drop it on the floor just now ? Find my phone would have told me that the phone was right beside me. Turn the 2 minute message tone on, and i could have traced it to Toms bmw a lot quicker :D

The best part of it is the ability to remotely wipe or remotely lock the device. So if you know its been taken somewhere you've not been before, and its definately been nicked, you can remotely wipe it, and put a message on the screen telling them its reported stolen, will get blacklisted and you've just wiped everything off it.

The benefit of being able to put a message up on the lock screen is that you can make that message make a constant tone for 2 minutes constantly too which is handy when trying to find it in the house. It over rides your ring tone settings too. So even if you've set it to silent and not vibrate it will still make a noise for 2 minutes solid helping you find it.

Its an excellent feature imo.

Seems my calendar is now rather messed up :( Upgraded the iPad and iPhone via the iMac and now I have some events duplicated, some triplicated and a different number of duplication/triplication on each of the devices in some cases. e.g. I have 2 things on on Sunday. One is correct; the second shows up once on the iPhone, twice on the iPad and 3 times on the iMac.

I guess for basic things like that yes. Surely someone in the pub would take it anyway ;)

It would be cool if it was EXACT precision.

/knock knock. "yes?" "You have something what belongs to me" "What?" "Give me my iDevice ;)"

I'll have to take mine to college with me and just use the app to see if it changes where I am. I'll try on college network and MiFi
 
Tempted to see if I can get a refund on Mobile Me - literally only bought it for Find My iPhone which actually has saved it once already...

I think posting up the street name on the device and saying your outside would be enough.

Its certainly given me only three streets i could be in, and about 50 doors. Enough to make them answer the phone if you ring it i reckon.
 
Anyone running this on a iPhone 3G? I've got one as a secondary phone but when I updated it to the original 4.0 release it was ridiculously slow so I downgraded again. Have they fixed it yet or should I stick to 3.x?

Since installing 4.2.1 safari has gone really buggy on my iPhone 4, it doesn't work at all! :mad:

edit: Nevermind, force quit it and seems ok now..

edit2: Oh, it seems AirPrint only works on specific printers.. so my current wireless enabled HP printer doesn't work, great! :(

Want to know this as well. Will probably upgrade my 3G tomorrow if I have time. :)
 
I gave my old 3G to the other half and she upgraded to 4.2 yesterday, however she was one of the few who never really had any major problems with 4.0, but she says 4.2 does indeed feel "snappier" than 4.1, that although things generally took the same amount of time to load, now at least when opening something it responded instantly rather than hitting the itunes icon and waiting 2 secs for it to pop then 4 secs to load, its now instant open still 4 secs to load.
