**The Official iOS 4.2 Thread** (Both recent threads into one)

Anyone else use a custom Carrier name and notice it's gone since 4.2 on there iPhone ?

All the other updates it's stuck around for me but this time it's gone back to it's boring default o2 logo :( I know there was an operator update that i installed so that might have removed the ability to do so, Tryed jailbreaking and using the makeitmine app like i done a long time ago and still didn't work :(

on iphone 4 i have an issue hanging up calls now , when i press end call it comes up ending call and stays there i have to turn phone off to stop the call , although the phone has disconnected the call ie i cant hear the other person or them me !

Well my WIFI is shagged beyond belief. Yesterday it died 6 times, and I ended up relying on 3G just to access the net. The following is a cut & paste from my post on macrumours.

---

My wifi has died six times today alone, which makes using the iPad a total pain. It just died a few minutes ago so I'm lucky i can use 3G on this thing. I really feel sorry for those who have wifi only iPads right now.

The only short term fixes I've found are:
1) reboot the iPad.
2) delete your wireless network connection and re-add it.
3) Settings/General/Reset/Reset network settings.
4) Swithing Airplane mode on/off sometimes helps.

Even if I perform any of the above, wifi still dies randomly.

Guys, this is just a thought. After updating both my MacBook Pro and iMac to 10.6.5 I had spotty wifi connections - kept dropping etc. The 'problem' (note the quotes) was that my router was set to wifi channel 11. I changed it to channel 6 and both computers have been no problem since. I updated my iPad to 4.2 a couple of days ago and its been no problem either. Why changing wifi channel would make such a difference, I can't explain.

It could just be a massive coincidence - but it might explain why some people are having wifi problems and others not.

I know OSX and iOS are two completely different OSs but is it worth someone checking/changing their wifi to channel 6 to see if that helps?

Yeah, most people with the Wifi issues have tried channel changing, dropping to the a+b bands etc with no luck.

Given that some people have the bug and some don't leads me into thinking that maybe x amount of iPads have a different revision of wifi/antenna modules to others? This could also explain why users like myself can't get iPad AirPlay to work with Airport Express routers correctly setup, yet AirPlay works fine from iTunes and a Macbook...

no problems here regarding wifi thats on a 64gb 3g model wonder if the problems are across all the models or or just on a certain one, can i ask everyone that has the update if the battery is lasting longer or shorter ??? mine seems to have dropped a bit

Probably because 6 is available in the US whereas 11 may not be.. or it could be that usage of 6 means that the one where all the testing gets done..

I have the same problem with my WiFi robot from the US. With 6 it works but the WiFi chip on it doesn't recognise 11 as an option. The fun part is that my old WiFi router can do 6 but my current VM one can't for some reason.

My IPhone 4 is so sluggish now. Listening to music and using Safari causes skipping in music and typing on here now is so laggy. Grrr. Not sure if maybe I have top many 'multiple tasks' open or what but seems this occured since this update. Anway to clear the cache of open apps or do I have to close them manually?

One of my lady friends staying round my place installed this onto her iP4 this weekend. She is getting trouble with calls all over the shop now, whereas she had zero before.

Dropped calls are incredibly frequent now, the iPod app keeps stating that there is no content despite the fact that she has sync'd over 7gb's of tracks and finally the calendar.app doesn't seem to be storing entries.

What a dreadful update. It's ruined wifi on my iPad and pretty much messed her phone good and proper. I'm going no where near this until the issues are sorted.
