*** The Official iOS and iPadOS 26 Thread ***

I wouldn't recommend installing iOS dev beta 4/public beta yet on an iPhone as there is annoying micro stutter everywhere, in apps, Safari, home screen, etc. Bloody horrible on my 16 PM. This issue wasn't there on B1, B2, or B3.

It feels like a game that has extremely bad frame time pacing, so it feels very stuttery. Really hope B5 fixes this.

When you come out of an app and the Liquid Glass takes a second to pop back in is probably the most glaring thing I’ve noticed so far.

I hear that they've stepped back a bit on the glass stuff and not as bad as it was in WWDC. What do people think of it so far? Is it hard to read like many people said originally?

Tempted to try this on my iPad, as I dont depend on anything there really (bank apps etc). Intrigued to see how 'desktop' it is now.

Presumably it's easy to roll back to normal release? ie if you turn off the beta switch, will it show that 18.6 is available for 'downgrade'?

Kind of disagree with all the youtubers saying this makes the ipad pro like a laptop. It just makes the existing apps easier to multitask, Ipad is still a long way off being a laptop replacement for a lot of users.

Nope, opting out of the beta will mean you're stuck on the installed version until iOS 26 leaves beta. To downgrade to 18.6 you'll need to install the image through DFU mode and restore from icloud.

I've been running iOS 26 on my 15 Pro Max through several beta versions now. I did experience the phone running hot and slow for the first day but it's been fine since.

I really cannot stand the new look they've gone for, it makes OS level information very hard to read. Put safari against a white backdrop and you can't see anything! Even with it toned down in accessibility it's still awful to look at.

I'm not overly keen at the moment. Feels like they did it for doing its sake.

Liking the 'window mode', or whatever it's called. And being able to play games in landscape mode, while doing something else. Quite a bold move to do this, as it was the main thing that separated the iPads from Macs.

since beta 5 the animations for eveything seem a lot smoother. Not a fan of icons.
Photos app much improved and default mail app I like the full screen scrolling

Installed PB2 last night on my device, seems pretty stable overall. Hoping PB3 should be even better. But damn... I know it's been talked to death, but I hate the new style Apple have chosen. It does not feel consistent with any of the other 3rd party apps now. Would much rather they focused on features and stability instead of shiny looks. I think this update is the one that will make me jump ship.

PB3 will feel even more responsive now they they've optmised things a bit more, and they've finally drastically increased the animation speed of opening and closing of apps and folders. I hope they don't revert that as it's perfect. They've tweaked the glass design a again and it looks a bit more polished. Took a while to get used to it but I really love it.

Hopefully PB3 will be out tonight as I am definitely noticing slowdown on my iPad 10 with PB2.

Updated to DEV6 last night, wow, wow, wow that animation speed! It feels like my phone is a rocket.

Maybe it's because I can't be bothered to go through the process of changing phones. but I'm also very slowly getting used to the new look. Don't get me wrong, I still don't love it, bit it's fine.

One thing I have noticed is that the old keyboard still pops-up in nearly all third party apps, assuming that will be fixed near the end of the dev cycle.

On PB2 on iPad and noticed some slight slowdown, but I'm sticking with it as the multi window mode is a game changer for my uses. Finally feels like I could get by leaving the laptop at home if I don't have any heavy productivity tasks to do

Things are definitely improving in the UI but I’m not convinced it’s good for the battery. Feels like it’s going down so fast.

Battery life seems the same on iOS 26 as it did on iOS 18 for me on my 16 PM, and I started with B1. While the glass effects will be a bit more demanding, it can’t be that bad, as they are doing that liquid glass effect on my Ultra 2, and battery life is just fine on that.

Battery life was abysmal for me initially, but has definitely improved. It is a BETA after all, so I completely expect mixed results. As long as it's no worse than IOS18 for batter life, I won't complain too much!
