I was wondering this the other day, but there's always a need due to DFU and accessing phone statistics in the Apple store. Saying that perhaps they're already thinking of ways around this.

Diagnostic port that you connect a proprietary cable into via the SIM port.

Of course the phone logs when this port is used in low level hardware, ready to void the warranty if a non-Apple OEM diag cable is used...

That's no good as presumably e-sim will join the iPhone next year, now they're finally making carriers get on board via the Watch 3.

Argh.

I'm constantly swapping my SIM in and out of my Phone/iPad, depending on which device I'm wanting to use. Big screen if I'm on the train with my bag, phone if I'm out and about with no bag...

Does anyone know if the North American handset is any different from the UK/EU spec regarding mobile bands etc?

I do not think so but might want to check. I gave my ex my UK iPhone 6 when she moved to Malaysia and that worked fine. Can't see why it would be any different but you never know

£7 a month on top.

No thanks

Oh yeah that's quite an additional charge. I only get 30GB a month free tethering but rarely use it.

The 3 plan I am on, £20 unlimited data (small prints says 1TB) including 4TB tethering per month. I was on £12.80 a month before they scrapped it.

I'm paying EE £25 a month for 2GB of Data :(

The kicker is that I have international calling bundled and make hours worth of international calls and SMS's each month.

It sounds like you should get an Android phone that allows 2 sims, one specifically for your international calls. Get a 6" phone would be better than a phone and an iPad at the same time. I used to run an iPad on £15 a month data package, I cancelled that 2 years ago and not missed it once since.

What about using Skype or WhatsApp? Surely that's the way to go these days for international calls.

I actually run an iPad Mini and an SE due to my hatred of having to carry a large phone everywhere. I don't carry a bag with me... 80% of the time. I was first in line for an SE, I hated the 6 from the day I stupidly decided to buy one rather than another 5S... (water damaged, no phone, need phone now...)

Android...

Heh.

All of my nopes.

I have a perfectly working standard 5 I could put a SIM into, but also... eh, my system works for me, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Also what's annoying is iMessage. I use it a lot off my laptop to ping people messages, and as half my contacts are a +61 number and the other half +44 numbers, it doesn't show up who is international and who isn't.

You can't tie two phone numbers to the single account, I have another bog standard 5 sitting in my mums house in Australia permanently on the WiFi, tied to my iCloud account, hoping that people could SMS my Australian phone number and iMessage would divert it to all of my other devices - It worked absolutely perfectly until I added a second phone number (My UK one). It won't let you forward SMS from both phones to the one account, you need to choose one or the other

That's the plan I was on (was awesome at the time) but I only get unlimited data and 30GB tethering now for £20. I'm getting shafted!

I barely dent the 30GB tethering anyway so not an issue lol.

So now that the iPhone has wireless charging, I wonder how many generations it’ll be until Apple remove the Lightning port.
If anyone is gonna brave doing this first.. it'll be apple. For sure.

Until wireless charging is an absolute bog standard around the home for other electronics I don't think it'll happen for another 5 years yet.

Eh, if the public reacts poorly to FaceID or it gets cracked, they'll just release TouchID v3 which is somehow even more plus plus better than FaceID...

A touch ID that works across the entire screen would be cool, like you go to use the phone, doesn't matter where on the screen you press, if it's you it unlocks could be good

What are you talking about?! Face ID is the new standard now, who wants to have to touch their phone (which often doesn’t work properly anyway) when you can just pick it up and it’s unlocked, in a faster and more secure way.

1) I said if FaceID fails
2) So it's unlocked, now what're you going to do with it? Not touch it and just stare at the home screen?
3) Under glass TouchID was Apples original plan, FaceID is a Plan B.

I've got a 7+ and see no desperate need to upgrade to an X until I can pick one up in the US for much less than it costs here in the UK. I imagine they won't have stock in the Apple stores until early next year, which will also provide an opportunity for the bugs to be documented and ironed out.
