Pull out pocket and look at screen and it should be unlocked.

To enter the home screen you'll have to swipe up, I guess that was done for those who just want to glance at their notifications instead of going straight to the lock screen.

But someone posted a tip, soon as you take it out your pocket swipe up it should be unlocked instead of waiting for the padlock to show unlocked then swipe.

Should make it more seamless
Obviously I've not tried face Id but I don't see how it can be an improvement on Touch ID apart from adding an allegedly higher level of security.

Just now my phone sits in my pocket upside down and as I take it out my thumb goes onto the home button and the thing is unlocked and ready to go before I even get to look at it.

If I just want to check the time I lift it out without touching the home button.

I don't think it can get any more simple than that.

Well like I say sometime finger id fails if there grease on the button or finger is wet. So I can see the face one being a good un

Will the hype die down before pre-order? A lot of people might not want to wait 5 weeks and pick up the 8 instead.

No it won’t, the X is a totally different proposition to the 8. It’ll be like settling for a BMW when you’re waiting for a Ferrari.

Really drinking from the Apple marketing pool there I think, the analogy should be... It'd be like going for a different trim/spec level BMW, when you're waiting for a specific trim/spec level BMW.

I understand why some would want the X but from what I want in a phone, the 8 seems like the one I'd be going for (if I was in the market for new phone).

Depends entirely on your disposable income and whether the new features will be used often.

I think £70-80 a month on a phone is madness but that's because I don't use it that often throughout the day, it's pretty much a device I use mostly when waking up and before going to sleep, and for other things I use now and again on a phone, I don't need the top of the line one to carry those tasks out pretty much just as well as an X would.

The 8 isn't great value for money either really when a 7 or 7+ can be had for far less and do a near identical job, even a 6s likely wouldn't be very noticeable in difference.

You're paying £69 + £56.45 x11 to rent the phone. You have to give it back when you upgrade. You then have your tarriff on top. Maybe better buying with a 0% credit card or cash and then selling if you want the next one.

But if I decide keep it can’t I just continue to 20 month and it mine or sell after that etc

The upgrade program is basically 0% credit, but you have to take out AppleCare, which is £200 for the iPhone X. So if you think you will make use of AppleCare, then it makes little difference whether you do or don't partake in the upgrade program (it costs the same as just buying the phone outright + AppleCare).

Just seen they do it without Apple care but that not upgrade program. Wonder if I can pay that off early?

Yeah they offer 0% credit at the moment, and that doesn't require AppleCare. If you want to pay it off early, I'm sure it's possible (I think the credit is with Barclays). Why would you want to, though?

I would have thought so. This does seem a good option for flexibility and not being tied into anything if you don't have the cash upfront.
