Can't comment on your friends S8 panel, but as someone who has compared them side by side there isn't much of a contest really, Samsung top-end OLED on the Note 8 is definitely superior to the iPhone X's. The iPhone X is more prone to colour shifting, Apple even have one of their willy waving statements up, in which it waxes lyrical about the Super Retina HD and actually advises buyers what to expect from the panel including colour and hue shifting and burn-in.

If you measure the phone by the sum of it's parts, then the X is a one of the best out there but don't just accept the OLED is the best out there because Apple's PR spiel says so.

I wish I hadn't looked at those photos (Even though I am the star in one of them). That is a drastic difference. Mind you it's the same on my 7+.
Those Safari screenshots are misleading. As soon as you start scrolling, the bottom white bit disappears completely, and it is content all the way to the bottom of the screen, and the white bit at the top shrinks to about half the size.

Samsung phone screens look like Fisher Price toys to me. Ridiculously over-saturated colours. Apple's displays are calibrated to show accurate colour. Very different target audiences.

That's just BS , Samsung screens can be calibrated as fits the user, particularly for accurate natural.colours if you desire.

Fisher Price is more apt to the Super Retina's font size as icons .

But in the end, each to their own but at least be accurate in your statements.

Sorry buddy, just saying it like I see it. No BS anywhere on this end.

I was under the impression that they are current gen, Samsung-made panels.
Well, the specs are clearly different to the s8/s8+ and note 8 panels. I'm not saying apple's oled isnt current gen, im just saying the current gen panels in samsung phones have the edge. There are rumours the x panel isnt samoled, but i dont believe that for a second. Purely speculative as i havent had a good play with an iPhone X yet, but if the colour shift is like my old note 4, and it looks like it from the videos, then it's not really much of an issue.

Total troll remark. There are colour adjust in Samsung devices, you can set it to show more accurate colours. But most people like the extra pop of the saturation. The Pixel 2 has set it colours to be accurate and received negative comments of it looking too dull.

Not trolling at all.

Every Samsung phone I have ever played with (including the Note 8) has wildly over saturated colours — in my opinion. Some people prefer more vivid colours, some people prefer more accurate colours. There is not a review on the planet that will call a Samsung phone more accurate than an iPhone. I was not aware that you can calibrate the screen on Android, although why on earth the average user would want to do that I don’t know. Apple chooses to not give people the choice, and I vastly prefer that approach. Give me the best possible screen, according to Apple, and because I tend to happily agree with Apple’s taste and Apple’s choices, surprise surprise I end up being a happy iPhone user.

You should ask yourself what you are doing when you call someone a troll for giving a pro Apple opinion on an Apple thread in an Apple forum.

The problem is most people think that over saturated colours are nicer, so that's how Samsung et al release their handsets. I remember my mate was going through colour profiles on his Nexus 6 (6P maybe) and out of the options he chose the most saturated one. I said a particular one looked nicer and more balanced and he said it looked boring and bland. It's why most people buy LCD TV's as they don't really know or appreciate the difference between brightness level 1 gazzilion thousand and over saturated colours compared to something that's been set up properly. Most people that come to my house say 'nice 4k TV, nicer picture than mine!'. Their face when I say it's just a 1080p OLED that's been professionally calibrated.

This isn't an Apple forum. I'm interested in new technology and seeing as apple is currently the most influential tech company, I take an interest in them. I've no loyalty to any brand.

Well you are wrong. Demonstrably so. Go read the DisplayMate reviews. So what he's actually doing is trying to correct you. Because you are wrong.

Decided to send back the Apple folio case. It’s nice (not £99 nice though) but the fact the flap doesn’t stay shut when closed, is a deal breaker for me. Just put on a Otterbox Strada case. Thought it would be a bit bulky but it isn’t any bigger than the Apple case.

Well...Face ID isn’t great at work when trying to get a sneaky look at your phone in. Having to pick it up or move your face over the phone makes that sneaky look not so sneaky :p

Had a play with my friends one today and it’s ok. Does not really seem any quicker than my 7 and the camera seemed a bit slower to focus. It did make my 7 seem tiny, too big for me but a nice phone I must say.....

Heh, direct quote: "Note that the Basic Screen Mode for the Samsung models, which we test here, is just one of four available Screen Modes that is selected under Display Settings (which many consumers and reviewers seem to be unaware of)". Confirms exactly what I'm talking about.

Technically I have no doubt that Samsung screens are fantastic, the iPhone X screen is manufactured by Samsung (to Apple specifications). What I'm talking about is colour accuracy, which is a feature of the operating system, and I wasn't aware that in Android you can customise this. My argument still stands, which is that for the majority of users, the out of box experience is what they end up with, and the out of box experience (in my experience) of a Samsung phone is wildly over-saturated colours.

Apart from the header that says Forums > Apple > Apple Hardware, you mean?
